I like Dermot's point about people thinking they discovered something that's already existed forever. In America we have "salad" sandwiches. Ham, chicken, egg, etc...and its just a meat chopped up with mayo and other seasonings and filler ingredients shoved in a roll. Probably been around for literal centuries and probably a not unique to America.

As a chef it always pains me to hear stuff like this. "I've discove-" No, no you didn't, people from X+ years ago did. I work with kids for front of the house(our bussers) and one time there was a year long craze for discovering pizza bread. They kept making tiktok videos about it every other day to the point I was going crazy since they'd be doing it instead of working. Pizza Bread.

Thank you for reinforcing my decision to never bother with anything TikTok. If this is the kind of stuff that passes for popular then I am literally missing out on nothing. Hell, by their definition of viral my Grandfather was a trendsetter 60 or 70 years ago because he ate sardines from a tin all the time. The frozen honey I could kind of see from a purely practical standpoint to reduce the messiness. Honestly most everything I saw in the video would have just been called "bachelor food" where/when I grew up.

I've been doing it since I was a young one back in the 80s...oh and I've had "chopped" sandwiches, which we call "salad" (tuna, chicken, ham, pimento, egg, etc) since then as well. The tinned fish in tomato thing is common in Denmark, and props Sweden and Norway as well. In DK we call it Makral, mackerel, which is standard mackerel fish in a tin can and tomato sauce(?). Very good on rugbrød with some mayo, salt and pepper :) But it's weird to eat straight out of the can...
