Brad Bird did a pencil test for an animated Spirit movie in '80 but the project never got backed and they lost the rights. It's on youtube.
For anyone coming over to this comment, the movie never got greenlit because the studios never understood why the movie was animated, there wasn't any funny animals and it wasnt a fairy tale

What if Netflix made a an original Netflix series of the spirit? As we have the Daredevil TV series on Netflix this could be the same way.
God no. Anything that was once cool back then needs to wait it out until we can get some competency back in entertainment.
I really want a reboot movie of the spirit
One of my favorite comic runs,
I own several Sunday Spirits and Police Comics Spirit reprints from the 1940’s.
I don’t know if The Spirit or the characters themes could be consider relevant on still matter in Todays culture. But if the characters is ever made a return to media outside comics, I think a series in Netflix’s with the Daredevil formula would be great for the character. Obviously there would have to be some change( Ebony White , All women he hits on, etc) But it could be The Spirits comeback like Daredevil !! Plus after the Frank Miller movie. The character really deserves a fresh star
I ask you though if you change too much about the characters- pigeon holing them into shallow representations of their former selves- would it still be anything worth watching. Even with the Daredevil formula? It wouldn’t be the Spirit you loved I promise you it would always feel off.
I feel like you probably haven't read the new series that DC released along with the others that Dynamite Entertainment did that successfully updated the character. Not a lot about the character was changed up only except the environment with how they handled Ebony especially. That wasn't a jab on the first sentence but there are a few resources that definitely showed off the character in a much better light that Eisner wanted in his later years. The video did mention the update on the characters but I do highly recommend it since it is a fun series that definitely captures Eisner's original series In a modern setting. The Dynamite Entertainment version continues where the original series left off, but based around one of the last storylines of the character going missing on his own adventures while Central City spins into anarchy.
You guys should talk about more Pulp and Poblic Domain heroes
The Same Jones TV movie also starred Nina Visitor (Major Kira, STAR TREK: DS9) as Commissioner Dolan's daughter, Ellen.
The Frank Miller movie itself was shit, but Gabriel Macht portrayed the Spirit really well.
Frank Miller sought to bank into films as he did with the Sin City series, but he couldn’t par with the original material of The Spirit.
You should make more videos about these characters out of the Marvel/DC zone.
I love them both, but It's nice to see different stuff sometimes.

The Spirit beat batman in there crossover it was good . And Doc Savage was way ahead of batman athleticly in the crossover of all 3 of them which is a honest depiction I respect the story wasn't a fan boy issue .

As a fan of will Eisner, I was very disappointed in the movie adaptation, which was horrible!

It was better. It was coherent at least. It was a sitcom and very cheesy but if you like The Spirit there's a fair amount of charm in it. Those of us who are big fans are still waiting for a good adaptation but there's at least stuff to like in that version. Not very good but not terrible either.
