    In jiujutsu its called a darce choke, this one looks different with the s grip tho

    What is the advantage of laying your opponent flat? I usually finish it from a top half guard and with my opponent on their side.

      There is no advantage to lying flat on the front, but it's a common position that people take in groundfighting. Some misguided coaches even teach this in the hope that the referee will call a halt to the action and get the person lying flat on his face out of trouble. Makes no sense, but they do it. So, we take advantage of it.
