I thought the same, but when I got 15 pro max, I got a combo in which I got this lens protector and guess what ? When we went to the beach it fell on a coral and one of the back lens protector cracked pretty sure if I didn’t have the protector actual lens probably would’ve scratched if not broken.

The one big issue is that when you use lens protector its film or glass is not that scratch resistant so you can easily see some scratches on it that makes your camera quality frequently poor
I broke my 12 pro max one camera lens, In which got 3k-4k lesserr than normal resale value and 2k separate for repairing it that too local glass, Now after buying ang new iphone the first thing i do is to install lens protector....😅
If you are concern getting scratches on lens then you must use. But again if you use good quality or bad quality protector the image quality will get affect. I am using s23 ultra with spigen lens protector, getting quality affected and also getting scratches on protector.

iPhone camera lenses have Sapphire coating, it won’t scratch or be damaged unless you scratch it with a diamond
