Very cool. I feel like the history of multi tools jumps all the way from that ancient version to the first SAK and maybe some farm multi tools with hooks to clean hooves.
I have seen the Roman knife about 9 years ago in the museum. I didn't take photos, alas. If you forgo the knife, there are very great American made combination tools (almost multitools) from the 1860~1890s. If you ever need names or search suggestions, let me know.
@@TheBentastic That is awesome that you saw it!!! I love those French multitools you've been showing from your collection! Anymore multitool info is welcome!
The three implements are tobacco pipe tools. The blade looking thing is to clean out the bowl, spike is to clean out the stem and the spatula is to pack the tobacco.
Grrrr it's annoying seeing that Barnet multitool and knowing that this design is over a century old, yet nobody has managed to perfect one (yes SOG I'm talking to you) and keep making it. There was the Wenger Swissgrip which was pretty close to perfection, they even made one with a 1/4 hex cutout for bits/extenders...except they put that on the side handle instead of putting it at the opposite end to the pliers head. Anyway rant over, that's a cool find even though it's kind of like a rich man's hobo knife lol. Keep em coming man, I love your quirky multitools.
Fantastic!! I'm very sure that the Italian guy was fudging the postage because that would fit in to a DHL envelope which would of cost you about £30 ($38) . The best thing about reproduction is that you don't mind using it.
It is not Roman, it says KONSTANTIN ROMANOV. Russian first and last name basically but the rest of the text is in Ukrainian I believe. Cool stuff though I'm pretty sure the OG one did not come with the micro-bevel on the blade.
you are just plainly wrong about slavic names. nothing inherently ruzzian about it. there is more slavic world and civilisation even if the ruzzian colonizer would not let you know about it
This channel is a master piece. Thank you for this video!

👍🏼very cool HVAC! Thanks for showing it. 👍🏼
@@andrewfett142 You're welcome!
Please do a video talking about the multi tools in the beginning if you haven’t. Really interesting stuff!
Looks very nice, the scratch markings and all give it a very manual labour feel.

These old tools are inspiring, would love to hear about more.
You have just spoilt my party peace. 😂
The spatula thing is an ear spoon. Used to dig out earwax

Camping gear has always emphasized efficiency.
its super kewl, i would not by one but would love to get one as a gift.

The first multitool was either a stick, or a rock.
Wow, who would have guessed.

Could be! Very true about reproduction! I love to be able to not have to hire a team of bodyguards LOL!
I couldn’t find this on eBay? Any direct links?
I have questions: Is it TSA friendly? Is it UK legal? Do they sell aftermarket pocket clips for it? 😂
@@ToolTechGeek LOL!! That would be funny to EDC it!!!
The blade and snail spike make it not TSA friendly. You can probably add a pocket clip after market, like Victorinox. :-)

Hmmmm, am I the only one that can't see it? My screen says it's on but I can't see or hear anything 🤔
It shows for me. Maybe youtube is having technical issues.
