    This is a super-helpful tutorial series! I've just installed PI and it's a beast if you don't have somewhere to begin - like these videos!

    Hi, Have been doing this a while, still a little new to PI but wanted to mention a few things you could possible cover for other folks.
    1. Blink tool - you should really go through all the images in the blink tool, it is by far the fastest tool for quickly reviewing tons of images I have used. You can then select the bad subs and move them to a bad folder or something similar. This leads to..
    2. Mosaics. - I do quite a bit of these with the S50, I use the blink tool to find all the images of the same spot, and move them to a new folder, named something easy (like Panel_1 , 2, etc) This in stacking, you can specify that it should use the Panel keyword for Pre AND post processing, and tell it to register by your keyword, (Panel). You can then align and merge the iamges together to make a larger mosaic.
    Thanks for the reminder on the cosmetic correction tool, I have a S50 template project with all my processes in it, I need to add the CC to it!

      Hey Mike, yes the "blink" tool is certainly helpful. One reason I didn't do it in this beginning series is that Seestar auto-rejects bad frames and those are not included in the raw frame data set that you offload from the Seestar unit. However, it is a good practice and would not hurt. I will cover that in videos coming up. 2. Mosaics -- yes, I've not done anything with the mosaic feature yet as it was just recently released and I'm still waiting for any kinks to be worked out with the software. But I do plan to share on this in coming videos as well.

    Thanks a bunch for this Seestar series!!! I just finished following along on my first attempt at using PI. Having previously used other software I can say it doesn't come close to the results you get with it. Am so grateful to you for sharing this. All worked perfectly, but I must say one has to follow very carefully, there's a lot going on. Am sure my next attempt will go much faster 😊

      Hey Colleen, thanks for the kind feedback. I'm hoping to really start producing more content in the weeks ahead as I would love my hobby to help support me as a side-hustle. I LOVE astronomy and love sharing what I've learned over the years. PI is a steep learning curve for sure. Lucomatico and Adam Block are both great teachers as well on Pixinsight and you should be able to translate what you learn there and bring into a Seestar workflow.

    Can't recommend these videos highly enough. been watching a load of Seestar videos recently, and these are head and shoulders above the rest - explain exactly what you doing (and most importantly, why!) in a very clear to follow manner.

      Thanks Sandy! That means a lot! I'm looking forward to sharing more content in the weeks/months ahead.

    Good production work. I have found the short exposure time (typically 10s) begs for the use of FastIntegration to register and integrate the debayered files.

    Excellant tutorial. One question, in the master folder after stacking there are two files which is the one I use to carry on in the next video? Thanks.

    Can you do a Workflow about Mosaic Seestar on Pixinsight??
    Best regards

      Hey, thanks for the question! Yes, I do plan to put out some content in the coming weeks on mosaic mode and a good workflow there for Seestar data.

    Hi - nice video and I learned something for sure. What I came here seeking is the meaning of IRCUT versus LP fit files of my SeeStar S50 in the subs folder. Some times I see a few IRCUT like you excluded in the video. Some times half my subs have the IRCUT label. I've stacked the IRCUT and LP fits separately and there is definitely a difference, but, what does it all mean???

    • @mesample1705
      @mesample1705 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      IRCut is the filter for broadband targets like stars and galaxies. The LP filter is a cheap Ha and Oiii filter Commonly referred to an narrowband in PI, more suited for nebulae. The LP filter does a better job of blocking light pollution such as that from mercury vapor or sodium vapor street lights.

      @@mesample1705 Is the LP filter worthless for moonlit skies? I'm beginning to think so.

    • @mesample1705
      @mesample1705 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jeffparke5992 My understanding is that the LP filter is more of a narrowband filter and the IRCut is a broadband filter. Moonlight hinders imaging because it competes with the target's light. The LP filter will pass more Ha and Oiii, blocking other wavelengths, so it is suited for capturing emission nebula and young massive star regions, and the background will therefore appear darker. The IRCut filter is a good choice for galaxies and globular clusters, but the nebulosity and star burst areas won't standout. You can compensate by adding data captured with the LP filter.

    Very informative and easy to follow. Doesn't SeeStar stack images for you even over several days?

    • @mesample1705
      @mesample1705 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Stacking the subs in PixInsight is better than using the stack file from the S50 because you sort the subs for quality prior to further processing.

    I tried to stack 1800 seestar images, and it took over 20 hours before I cancelled it. Intel 9900 and 32gb of RAM so not a slow PC.

    Mikecmp could you explain more about your comment on mosaics? Maybe on Seestar site so you don’t hog this comments . Or do a video on it.
