How might China retaliate against Biden admin. tariffs?

  • China is vowing to retaliate after President Joe Biden announced new tariffs on $18 billion worth of Chinese goods. These include a 100% tariff on electric vehicle imports, 50% on solar cells, and 25% on certain steel and aluminum imports. Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi joins The Morning Brief to discuss his exclusive interview with the president and how China is responding to the news.
    "It's unclear precisely how China will react," Sozzi explains, saying that China may go tit-for-tat or decide to take their action even further. "This might just be the opening start here for President Biden. Do they take this even further in an election year when he and his administration want to highlight what they're doing in terms of manufacturing and bringing back jobs to the country, whether it's in semiconductors or other important industries?"
    Biden told Sozzi that he believes China may be artificially propping up its economy, explaining that "China is fundamentally underwriting their entire industries." The president added that these tariffs are about "being fair."
    In light of the new tariffs and potential retaliation from China, Sozzi says, "This economy, by all indications, continues to be growing...The world is not ending."

    Let the Chinese solar and cars in. Make the big 3 put up or shut up. Quit backing the losers and throw the money to the people. Oh you need to send us 15k for cars and 60k for solar as you just doubled or quadrupled prices.

    The hilarious part of this is that Chinese EV's would only prioritize the Global South. After 2 years, Americans are still waiting for those Chinese EVs while their media keep on reporting the Chinese EV makers are scared. The tariffs on Chinese EVs will likely be used to fund Ukraine and Genocide in Gaza. So some EV makers are more doubtful to enter the US market.
    But then the US gov will convince them eventually after 2-3 years when their automakers couldn't make low-cost EVs. The US still has Tesla but it has very narrow options while the rest of the world enjoy more options for EVs.

      They only allow outside companies to sell in China so they can steal their IP. Hence the emergence of domestic EV companies in China ever since Tesla began manufacturing in China along with other foreign firms.

      And don't you think it's the same logic for the US?

    • @ebonyharris2263
      @ebonyharris2263 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @comentarios-comentarios that's the most obvious response. On a surface level it makes sense. But china doesn't buy or want American products. Whe I visited China twice ( I had a great time there btw) Google, TH-cam maps , Facebook and a slew of other apps didn't work there. The mark up for American products was through the roof . I paid 7 dollars for some lays chips. And almost paid 6 dollars for a snicker bar . If China wanted to increase trade it would have less tariffs and sanctions on American companies. That's why the US is reciprocating sanctions and tariffs on China.
      Do you thinks it's fair that one country has significant more sanctions another than that one has on the latter?

    China should add 100,000% export tax on all goods to US to help bringing back manufacturing industries back on US soil and thus Americans can use all printed green dollars to buy American made products. The non US-EU world would merrily trade with each others using currency swaps and stay away from the dollars or the Euros.
