What a great and very helpful conversation. I have in the past been very scrupulous and had a difficult time forgiving myself. It took me some spiritual direction and prayers to free me from this sad situation. Father and Ken have given a perspective that should help many people. Most of us are parents and love to give gifts to our children and to see the gift rejected is a very sad and frustrating thing. God bless you both greatly.

I was talking about this with my middle one. My sons 1st confession was today and yesterday he was nervous about a specific sin that even when Jesus can forgive him, he feels he cant forgive himself. This is a great to put it. Is about being open to his mercy, allowing him and not allowing ourselves are not compatible. His first comunnion is tomorrow, olease pray for him 🙏

Another excellent Catholic Orthodox video, Ken Yasinski and Fr. Christini! I think some cases of difficulty about forgiveness of one's self comes from PTSD from narcissistic abuse ... whether from such a parent, such an older brother or sister, a teacher, a leader, or even or especially a narcissistic priest who taught the exact wrong things concerning these matters ... especially when they were hypocrites who willfully did not live by the false teachings that they forced upon their victims! I agree with "Start with Jesus" - and what He endured/did for the complete Atonement for our sins. I like to reflect on the entire Passion of Christ - particularly during the Scourging at the Pillar on - to get a more toward complete picture of His complete Atonement for the sins of the world ... including ours! May GOD richly bless and protect you, Ken Yasinski and Fr. Christini!

When you remember sins from the past I feel it's the Holy Spirit reminding us to bring that to confession to be set free from the hold it has had on us all those years. Then we can walk out of the confessional much lighter and feeling free. God bless you🙏

    • @michelemcdermott75

@@farmersdaughter1000 Perhaps. But when a priest wants to hear no sins, EXCEPT those committed from your last confession - then what? Oh, go to a different priest? Suppose you cannot. As we reflect on our lives we “wonder” if all the sins committed as a teenager or sins of omission were confessed. Not “a particular sin” Unfortunately we have 1/2 hour confession every Saturday. Huge parish and 1/2 hour confession. Thank you for your response.🙏

@Michele Mcdermott I added at the end of my confession Dear God please forgive me for all the sins from my past I've forgotten to confess. And since doing that my Pastor asked me to say Thank you God for forgiving all of the sins from my past until my current confession. I hope that helps. I'm sorry that your Pastor only has 1/2 hour for confession. Does he just stop when the half hour is up?

Mayb those of us from the guilt Era of the church ( decades ago) just felt unworthy of His 4giveness & struggle with the thot of " His Just punishment " 4 those same sins?
I can 4give others & have. I am much tougher on myself. I attend confession weekly, attend daily Mass as much as possible. & still so humbled that He wud 4give me of my sins.
I changed those sins- that has helped me very much! Giving a proper Lenten offering - brought the joy 2 me years ago. Change yr sin,- I am thinking- that is all He wants?
Thanx & U need 2 go deeper 4 the seniors - that suffer this, the most!

It is a very interesting "Forgiveness" i remember my short vision with Mother Mary, i suffered bad times, it was affecting my health, and Mother Mary taught me this, forgive those who cause you pain and suffering, and also seek that forgiveness for those you have caused to suffer and feel hurt too, for when you suffer unforgiving sin you close your heart to my Son, and your heart becomes like stone and you build hatred towards yourself and others, be true of heart and come to Her Son with all your heart, that one evening with Mother Mary filled my heart to this day, and that was over 36yrs ago, don't hold on to sin but hold on to Mother Mary Son, that is the choice we all have to do, a true confession with a true heart and that is the best place to start.

I have been suffering from self forgive ness since a few decades now. Even though I accept that God has paid the price for the consequences of my sins, I still feel guilty thinking about the consequences. Those consequences can never be changed and that is is weighing me down. But I'll continue to pray to God to give me the wisdom to lead towards the path of forgiveness.

Its often this: Many of us have been raised without any experience of forgiveness from our families. We don't know how to forgive ourselves because noone ever forgave us. We never learned. While we can be very open to receiving the forgiveness that Jesus offers us, that's about all we can do, while praying daily to ask Him to help us learn to accept His mercy as He heals our very wounded hearts. Willingness from those of us who don't understand the concept of forgiveness at a basic human level is necessary first. God will do the rest. And it usually is a process that takes time. Be patient with yourself and with God as He works to heal your heart. ☺️🙏

I think for many, including myself, it’s not so much living in a state of un-forgiveness, but living everyday with the “consequences” of my past sins and how those consequences continue to impact my life and the lives of others, how those past forgiven sins continue to produce pain in the lives of those I’ve injured. The only relief from those consequences are picking up my cross and carrying it everyday, offering it as reparation for those I’ve injured and for myself. This is NOT an easy road, but Jesus never said it would be easy…

    • @kathywiens9852
      @kathywiens9852 ปีที่แล้ว

I today relate! I remind myself though to be so incredibly grateful for God's infinite love and Mercy. Also that I've found my way to the narrow road. Now I recognize sin, and it's consequences, so I can be a better example for those who've been affected by earlier sins of mine. I'm made aware that I want to live in a way to not add anymore regrets. I pray that I'm gifted with many more years of life just for the fact it'll give me more time to offer reparations. Yes, for myself but especially for those I love dearly who live with the consequences of my sinfulness. We do have to forgive ourselves or we won't be able to forgive others as we ought. Peace❣️

I've been struggling with my mental health and not being able to fully or even forgive myself at all for various life mistakes. I didn't realize until after watching this video with you both that in order to gain inner peace, I need to learn self-forgiveness and I need to learn to follow God's will better like you both said so that I can gain that inner peace. The perspective that you both gave me is just what I needed to hear to set myself on the path to self-forgiveness. As everyone else has expressed the words of, "I release myself for the debt of pain I have caused myself" truly is something to live by and are words of grace and wisdom. Thank you for making this video and providing a way to help me and others to learn self-forgiveness and begin to let go of the past.

I'm going to use that type of prayer when my grandchildren say something that hurts me more than it should. My youngest grandchild is 9 almost 10 and the oldest is nearly 22. As you can see they all know better. BTW there are 8 total. I try not to feel hurt but at times it's tough. Same goes for my children who are adults. This stood out to me. 5 years ago my young son died in my arms. It was a tragic backyard accident. The morning of the funeral I had a dream, and in it he said to me everyone needs to learn to forgive themselves. It's stuck with me, and I believe a few of us involved are still trying to do this. For me it's been in phases of letting go of blame and regret, and letting God love me. Your discussion was helpful in refreshing my viewpoint of Jesus's mercy. There's nothing I can do about the past, but I can accept his gift, no requirements. Thank you.

Excellent topic!! Thank you for your inspiring words. I remember years ago a priest gave me one Our Father as penance. But he said it must be said over the period of 5 minutes (!). This told me I needed to ponder every phase - and dwell on its meaning. Now, when ever I am given 'a one' of any prayer as penance I try this meditation process. Sometimes it takes even longer. :-)

Sometimes, I find it hard to forgive myself, not so much in falling into the same sin, providing I go to confession immediately, but when others have not forgiven me for "supposed" past sins. I have apologized to the best of my ability, but I think there is an element of the devil in keeping people apart. I have resorted to prayer, but the element of sadness sweeps over me, regardless of what feast day it is, such as Easter.

I have been working on my spiritual life much more and I was one of those ppl that couldnt really forgive myself bc I thought my sins were too huge to be forgiven. But then I read how Judas great sin wasnt so much about that he had betrayed Jesus but that he did not believe in God's mercy, and that was the greater sin in God's eyes. So thank you for this talk and confirming that I must believe and trust in God's mercy.

Thank You. This has been very helpful. Many, many years I have not been able to forgive myself for past sins that I am sure God has forgiven me for. I think I can forgive myself now. Still not happy with the sin/sins I committed but pretty darn sure I won't do it again. 🙏

I find it so helpful when these big concepts, like forgiveness, are made relatable with real life situations and examples.

Thank you for that clear explanation and examples. I had been struggling for a long time sorting out and looking for the meaning of forgiving oneself, and why and how to do it even after going to confession.

Hi Ken, this is exactly what I needed to hear. I have a hard time forgiving myself. One step further if you could address this, what if you go to confession, and you are forgiven. How do you deal with the fear of purgatory. You are forgiven but you still have sins you have to amend in purgatory. That is my fear. And HOw do you find a good confessor like farther Cristino. I have gone to confession to priests that don't give any counsel. Get them in Get them out attitude. You know you are forgiven but you just don't have that joyous feeling because lack of guidance.

I have also held on to guilt about sins committed decades ago. Thank you for this session. It's really been helpful!
