something i find so interesting that other people have brought up is just how similar Solas’ spirit form in the mural resembles the full Mythal vallaslin.
i don't think solas is getting the full blame for the war with the titans, it's just that the gang is evaluating *his* memories and *his* regrets in that one-sided context. and it's just like solas to place the blame onto himself entirely lol
Okay, so in the mural where he locks the Evanuris in the fade, Solas basically already reveals that their life force is what keeps the veil intact. Yet somehow its a huge surprise at the end of the game when its revealed that killing Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain will destroy the veil? How? Did no one but me as the player pay attention to that mural? Like, that was the first thing I noticed during that scene. Literally "wait, so if the veil is tied to the Evanuris's life forces, does that mean it disappears when we kill El and Ghil?". Did Bioware miss this, or something??
I think Mythal and the others were the first ones to do something wrong here, but it sounds like Solas had free will when he agreed to take the initial step that he knew was wrong. Then his pride started to take over and he couldn't admit that he was wrong to follow Mythal so kept following her. I do think it's hard for some hardcore Solas fans to treat Rook and the Veilguard team as more neutral - leaning to distrustful of Solas (even though they have really good reasons to not trust him) because their love for Solas is influencing how the RP Rook. Not that there's anything wrong with that! It's just very obvious when it's happening to people (when they share their thoughts on social media).
Oh my gosh as a Dragon Age elves fan this episode with all the elf lore was absolutely DELIGHTFUL. Ive not done the research you have and i learn so much from your videos, and it makes me appreciate DA elves and just the history in general even more than i already do. Also, absolutely jazzed to see longer videos!
I love how squeaky Bellara’s voice gets sometimes. She’s adorable. I also really love the rougher, scratchier tone Lucanis takes sometimes. “Save some for the rest of us rook”
I feel like the elf favoritism has created a bit of bias amongst a lot of people when it comes to the chant of light and andrastianism and the history humans believe in. Because the memories of Solas doesn’t actually disprove the maker himself. Just individual parts of the chant (just like individual parts of the dalish stories). The maker is said to create spirits then when the spirits did nothing with the world created humans and some spirits then became twisted/changed. We now know from the memory that humans existed before the elves - so the change could have been the spirits becoming the evenuris and the other elves. Which I find fascinating - because it plays to the fact that faith & belief can be based off a factually incorrect thing but not a whole wrong thing to have. And also as paraphrased “religious texts and history can go through many changes; both intentional and not”
As much as you decorate with the Nevarran Necropolis items I am only half surprised you didn’t make a Mourn Watch character. (But I do know your love of the Crows).
I've been seeing lots of conversations around the abusive nature tied to Solas and Mythal. How she manipulated him into forming a physical body by using his love/friendship for her. And how she used him for his wisdom thereafter. There's that line in Inquisition when Cole is looking to bind himself and Solas disagrees... Cole says that it's not abuse if I ask and Solas says not always true. And with the Inquisitor she is curious and kind and never asks him/looks to him for his wisdom with the intention of abusing his knowledge. She sees him for who he is and accepts that and I imagine for Solas that was an insane and wonderful experience... Yet now he was the one not being wholly truthful because he was keeping it secret that he was the Dreadwolf. Gah!!
Did you like what BioWare did with the trans narrative in this game?? I'm agender and I was glad they included it. Other people are saying it's too cheesy. But I can't remember the last outwardly-nonbinary person fictional character, so I don't know what narrative they're basing that off.
I know you didn’t ask me but I’m a cis dude and found Taash’s story really interesting I mentioned this somewhere else but as someone who never questioned their gender their story was really moving and while I accept anyone living their life however they choose it was still eye opening to see a character go through that journey and experience it with them even help them at times. I really loved it, my only criticism is the Isabella scene near the end it feels weird to me that Isabella goes on this whole speech about not making the mistake about themselves and then precedes to do exactly that instead of just apologizing and moving on. Now I say this never having to worry about being misgendered so maybe that’s just me speaking from a place of privilege and if others found that scene impactful or worthwhile then I’m very interested in why because I am open minded and want to continue learning.

Trick Weekes, one of the developers, was an older man before they transitioned to being nonbinary sometime after Inquisition. They wrote Taash, and I see Taash's story as good for multiple types of people: younger, trans, older, not; I think they managed to conjure a basic narrative even when none really exists in pop culture, and I think that's impressive.
I have never been a big fan of the “age gap trope.” It had always just made me kinda uncomfortable. But, I completely understand why people love Emmrich’s romance and gravitate towards it. I won’t personally be going there on my playthroughs, but I love that you are. I am looking forward to future installments. Also, please go easy on Lucanis. He has every right to be upset. Harding would need to be at least 30 by this point in the timeline, and the only other character who seems super young is Taash, who is possibly around 20
