      Odd, the Amazon page on your solar controller states that it is not for use with lithium type batteries nor NiMH. Is it PWN or MPPT? Thanks and looking forward to more videos.

      @@SilverShadow2LWB late to the game, but it is PWM. Only PWM is even that cheap but it is also said on the description in what modes it has.
      But you are right. Wrong controller for the system he has. Oops. Maybe its able to work but not as well or maybe its a liability issue for the company if it works but isnt tested for it? Either way, I would look for a proper controller. They cost the same but better to be safe than sorry.

    • @livingsimpleandfun9812
      @livingsimpleandfun9812 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@user-uu8uk5oo4o Yes there is.
      First, that PWM controller is the wrong one. It says explicitly not for Li-Ion batteries.
      Second, its actually fine for small systems but he claims he wants to hook it up to a bigger system but the controller is not right for that either. Go MPPT for safety and efficiency. It will regulate the system properly.
      That box also isnt really that weather proof. but its not the worst thing.. Just keep it out of the rain. I also think he should have a fan blowing air out. Its not heating up now but conditions can change based on outside temp and current draw and he doesnt have any circulation in the box.

    I like the box design. FYI, It's only a 1280W power station (not 2000w). Since the batteries only output 100 amps, the BMS on the batteries should shut down at about 1280 watts first. Using an overpowered inverter is still better on the inverter and will definitely allow it to last longer. Have you tried overloading it to see when and how it shuts down during overload? If you add a 3rd battery, you will get close to the max inverter output. The whole setup is really cool. Thanks for sharing.

    Nice! Looks like a modular design. Any battery /inverter combo would work. The particular solar controller used does say only for lead acid only.. But there are other options available.. Could be charged with solar or a 120v to 12v dc supply. I think I would want to go with a different enclosure..

    7:40 Oops, actually you have *Lithium Iron-Phosphate, "LiFePo4" batteries. Which are, IMO, much better for this type project. Lithium-Ion are the ones we see with thermal run-away and fires. (as in cellphones.) Nice project. I've done a few similar. Which reminds me I need to upgrade my batteries on one of my projects. My newest system is a 400AH system with >1KW in 4 solar panels, on my Cargo Trailer Camper/Motorcycle trailer. I'm encourage the LiFePo4 batteries are coming down in price!

I am thinking of just running some mc4 cables to the batteries and have the connectors outside the box to plug the solar or wall charger. Fewer components in the box, less heat, better air circulation.. What say you?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I like your set up. I am thinking of building something similar to yours, but I have a few questions for you first. First of all, here is my situation. I live in a very small Camper Trailer, but have no electricity unless I want to spend a huge amount of $ on gas for my 5000 watt generator. I have a 2000 Watt Power Inverter, and have been thinking about getting a single 12 volt deep cycle Marine battery to power the few items that I need to power. All I really need electricity for is to run either the Microwave Oven that is in the Camper, or my Hot Air Fryer so that I can make a hot meal when need be. Here are my questions for you:
    1) Would the single battery be enough to power the microwave or hot air fryer by themselves for up to 5 minutes on the microwave, or 15 minutes max on the hot air fryer without killing the battery ?
    2) I know I will need a Floating Battery Charger to keep the battery charged, but my 2nd question is can I plug the charger into the same inverter that is being powered by the same battery to run the charger, and keep the battery maintained, or would I need to plug the charger into a different power source ?

    I actually have the same bluetti. Might build something similar. Have you researched the A.G.M. batteries? Supposedly it is as good as lifepo4 if not better but less maintenance

      Absorbed Glass Mat batteries (AGM) are a type of lead-acid battery. They are twice as heavy, only deliver half as much usable energy, and generally only get about 20% of the total number of usable cycles. They are nowhere near as good as LiFePO4 (LFP) batteries. The only negative about LFP is you can't charge them when the cells in the battery are frozen; that will destroy them. If you can simply ensure the cells are not freezing when you start to charge them, LFP is better in every conceivable way. When you look at the total cycle count, including the total watt-hours stored and discharged, they are far less expensive (per watt-hour used over their lifetime) than AGM.

    When did you purchase those batteries because the cheapest 12V 100Ah battery I can find on their site is $230 each, so $460 for the 2? I guess inflation strikes again.
