I visited West Bromwich about six months ago for the first time ever and I can’t tell you how relieved I was to leave it. The area is an absolute cesspit.
It certainly aint what it used to be
It's sad to see what's happened to carter's green it's like little Poland now,the big building I think used to be a butchers,taylors I think,the Hong Kong takeaway was porters chip shop,they used to wrap them in newspaper ,the red building on the corner by the marksman was a florists,and the barbers by the wheat shief was once a famous hairdresser owned it but can't remember his name
The barbers may have been Cammies before moving to St Michael Street?? Many thanks for this information
Hi Phil at the start of your walk i remember Geust motors you have talked about in a previous video opposite Geusts i remember a fish and chips shop called Porters and a model shop the place to buy Airfix . I liked the picture of the ABC .and the old church back of the clock .i remember Hills coaches and Pawsons & the Tower Lounge i always find your videos interesting all the best Paul.

Firkins was great and the clock cafe now a shawarma place.
Daz ran the cafe .it was great ..up the side of stokes was a pub called the black cock.

Carters Green looks very relaxed right there right now Not so later in the day and particularly on a Saturday it’s bedlam. Gone is the quiet cafe type boulevard, instead there’s a lot of congestion, people walking out in front of cars and car doors being opened WIDE as you drive down the street without any due care and attention.
I’ve walked down that street many a time and never noticed the Alderman Farley face on the pavement..such a shame really, but thanks for pointing that out.I wonder how many people watching this blog have noticed it.. It’s really such a shame that a lot of effort has gone into this paved area recognising founders of West Brom but the beauty and artistry is missed.
The Council seem to be trying hard to appease those who know that much heritage has been lost to the bulldozer sadly a few nods here and there to the first alderman will not cut it for most

I remember going to the gym at YMCA at carters green but cant see where it was on your video?
The YMCA has had a fair few alterations over the years so it maybe somewhere else within the building

Stokes opticians was a butchers years ago, but I don’t know what it was before. 👍🏻

I’m sure the Peugeot garage was MFI before a car garage as well.
You may very well be right. They are currently doing some work on that building but im yet to find out what it will become next
@@awalkwithphil if I’m a betting man I reckon it will be a Banqueting suite or Wedding venue. I’ve seen bits of work when passing but who knows. Great video.
