The adventure bike world owes so much to the XT500. It was the first of a new genre.

I am a big fan of Yamaha but I'm a bit older than that so my first real motorcycle was the 49 Triumph speed twin ...it was old when I bought it ...followed by a string of Yamahas the first being a 250 cc twin two stroke Catalina ..but I am no longer able to ride due to advancing age and deterating health ... I'm 80 this fall but if I could ride .. the 500 would be on my shortlist ... I remember when that Yamaha thumper first came out ... sweet machine !

Great video. I could do without the computer voice and instead maybe a human voice?
The Yamaha 500 I love is a street licensed 1977 TT500, which has a Powroll crank, larger Mikuni Carburetor, Cam, Supertrap exhaust, tachometer, Yamaha lighting kit. Works Performance shocks, and mirrors. I’m the 2nd owner, 1st owner set the bike up with everything listed except the shocks and mirrors and the Avon Gripsters that I added…
It was a real enduro machine when I got it, DOT knobbiest, no mirrors and dirt gearing.
