I totally understand why Zach loves his front racks (no pun intended). His bikes are his "cars", his mode of transportation. If they were just riders, he wouldn't need the racks.
I own a car and a bike, but it‘s just more convenient to have a basket upfront if you occasionally need to carry something or, as he said, want to keep your back from getting swampy
I got front racks on both my old MTBs and city bikes. Bikes are a mode of transportation while also being a fun way to be active for me. The more enjoyable and convenient, the less I use my car
To reduce wheel flop when loaded a spring can be used. The spring will not eliminate flop but can help smooth out the motion making the steering fell more normal
I got a front rack on my bike in the last 8 months and it's the most convienient and flexible mode of carrying stuff that i've ever used. I usually have a backpack or tiny bag with me anyways, in that I have a reusable grocerybag. If I go shopping or grab anything I can just strap the grocery bag into my front rack. I find that Pannier bags are more often a pain in the ass especially if you want to park your bike and not have them stolen. Great for picking up small-medium sized packages. I even used it to carry my big repaired monitor from the store to my home (this one I walked my bike 2km but it was still way better than walking with this heavy thing)
I have a basket on my folding bike. Its a Klickfix model, with a quick release to take it on and off. I just leave it on at all times. I find if i have the basket i use it.
Frame mounted front rack. All the benefits of a handle bar mounted front rack, minus the steering impact. But it'll rule out drop bars. Curious what you think about it Zach.
Jan Heine says a baker's or butcher's bike is great for heavy loads and much slow speed riding. As when you deliver mail in a city. For spirited riding, though, you want your load to be attached to the front wheel.
With legs like that .... get on the track already 😅 We know you didn't really dig your prior velodrome experiences but a fresh vid revisiting this would be awesome. ❤ How far away is the nearest track?
I recently put an obento rack on my bike and ziptied a wald 137. It hardly added any weight. Don't even feel it when it's unloaded. The materials they use are super light and strong
You'd make a good lawyer Zach. Sometimes I use a mesh string backpack to carry lunch that I don't want smashed. It's super light and airy and fits into a saddlebag when not carrying stuff.
Personally, my fav front rack is fitted the headstock of the frame rather than onto the front forks which means it does not turn with the steering. That itself is not important BUT it does mean that the steering does not get sluggish when heavily loaded. Of course, this only works if your bike is designed to put a rack onto the headstock.....
front racks look sweet. I like the rear rack with a basket on top. Keeps your stuff in the slip stream of your body but I cant carry the volume of a large front basket.
using bungee cords and/or canvas bags with a rear basket is the way. no one is raw doggyin items in a front or rear basket. I like panniers, i own a couple but if they are decently sized there like one step away from dragging a parashoot around.
Hey Zack what do think about 26 inche wheels? Probably is going to look small to you but I think for people on the 5, 6" height might be an option to consider?, could you talk about pros and cons?
26" wheeles and tires are the most used size in the world. This creates more choices. That is why I run them exclusively, and I am 6'2". I see no down side. I run Kenda K838 street tires on all of my bikes. 1.95 wide, so they do not sink as much when I am mildly off-road. But when they are at 55psi, there is less than 1/2" of rubber touching the road. Smooth n fast. Maybe a little heavy, but I am 205lbs... what is 1or 2 pounds more? Worth the trade-off for the negligible added weight. I have been using them since 2016 and never had a flat, even on my MTB.
Rear bags can be floppy. Most only mount at the top, which is terrible. Steel baskets that mount top and bottom are rigid and don't mess up the steering.
The shame when one of us or our friends had to borrow their mom's bike, which was usually something like a raleigh step thru with a sturmey archer 3 speed and a big basket on the front. "Hey Mary Poppins" was the usual comment.
I just got a used Wabi lightning for 450!! What type of drops bars do you use your purple wabi? I’m a single speeder, I don’t have the balls to ride fixie and live reasonably dangerous.
Hi Zach! Can you make a video about Adidas Velosamba shoes (or any other commuter clipless shoes)? I recently bought them and started riding clipless. Awesome feeling, much better than straps/toe-clips. The only issue i had with those shoes - broken threading on day one and 0 repairability for such cases.
Please boycott Adidas. They shut down free speech of those that oppose the gene oh side of Palestinians. Don't support racism, ethnic cleansing, and the bloodshed of innocent children.
That is not a "Front Rack", that is a "Basket". Words matter. Does Zach have shame associated with the word, "Basket"? F what people think about your Basket.

Zach owns a car

One of the maon reasons why I got a Brompton. Bags and rack!
I have both. Brompton for practical and fixed gear for fun!
i got Jack The Rack for my single speed about 4 months ago and it's been great so far. can carry anything on it.
I have a basket on my folding bike. Its a Klickfix model, with a quick release to take it on and off. I just leave it on at all times. I find if i have the basket i use it.

I've seen drop bars with those kinds of racks
Bring back the Reasonably Dangerous T-Shirts Pleease! 🙂
Yeah definitely this is my kind of a vision after im done with my college
“I love front racks so much..*pauses video*”

Love this video but off topic: where did you get those socks? They’re awesome
I have back rack and yes I want to have a front rack too. Too bad my ebike currently doesn’t have a way to add one.
You'd make a good lawyer Zach. Sometimes I use a mesh string backpack to carry lunch that I don't want smashed. It's super light and airy and fits into a saddlebag when not carrying stuff.
One more thing to consider with front racks + baskets is the weight of your load. At a certain weight, around 8 kgs, the steering gets sluggish.

Rear baskets you also can't see if stuff bounces out or access it easily, front baskets and rear panniers are where it's at
using bungee cords and/or canvas bags with a rear basket is the way. no one is raw doggyin items in a front or rear basket. I like panniers, i own a couple but if they are decently sized there like one step away from dragging a parashoot around.
With all my respect and admiration. Carbon will set you free
Most front racks interfere with most bus bike racks arm that rotates around the front wheel securing the bike onto the bus rack. Thoughts ?
Would also like to see a Reasonably Dangerous mug. 😀

I have a low end bike, a hybrid with a front suspension fork, am I out of luck as far as installing a front rack?
What are your thoughts about the Gray f15 from AliExpress? I'm considering buying it, but idk if it's a good choice/good quality.
I got a rasket after seeing it in the pathlesspedaled pelago airisto review video
Do you have a link to that front rack
What are those bars on the thunder
The shame when one of us or our friends had to borrow their mom's bike, which was usually something like a raleigh step thru with a sturmey archer 3 speed and a big basket on the front. "Hey Mary Poppins" was the usual comment.
Is there a reason why Americans cable tie a Wald basket to a front rack instead of just...getting a bike basket? They're like $30.
I just got a used Wabi lightning for 450!! What type of drops bars do you use your purple wabi? I’m a single speeder, I don’t have the balls to ride fixie and live reasonably dangerous.
I use my Nitto M18 for burritos and tamales.
nice shirt tito lol

Bro those bars are redonkulous

I love my mash rack but I have to run it with brakes cause my knees hit it when I try to skid
ayoo never been this early to ur videos nice!
What do you think of the JACK the Bike Rack?
saw those bars online, did not think they were that wide. those are hella wide
6:38 happens to me on my chr*me backpack way too often 💀
In my country fixed gear riders only bring vape, 20 bucks and body odor
What's the bar you're running on your black bike? If anyone else knows I'd appreciate the feedback 👍🏽
Nvm he mentioned it later in the video 🤦
What’s that huge basket bag? It looks sick!
I think he said it was a PDW loot bag
Number 1 reason for front racks.......they look cool AF.
End of discussion.
Usually it's not recommended to lad the steerer tune this much...
Is this Path Less Pedaled???
But for fixies
rear racks and panniers are way more practical, just less cool right now😊
That is not a "Front Rack", that is a "Basket". Words matter.
Does Zach have shame associated with the word, "Basket"? F what people think about your Basket.
Zach... Please refer to riding our bikes as "Cycling" PLEASE 🙏🏽
Have you ever tried a puppy's pee pad inside your shirt? You will still sweat, but it gets soaked up right away.
unc status
Dawg, is your shirt meant to look like a Barong? Forget fixie points, you should get PINOY POINTS
I don’t miss a day a week kislux This show..
No Zach. Not on a fixed gear. Anti basket guy here. That's like putting a basket on my adult bmx bike. Duh! Minus mucho fixie points.
stop trying to make informative videos as a barely intermediate cyclist
the front rack has such a girlie vibe
No, we're talking about the rack on a bike.
Oh yes. Minuns 65 fixie points.
You never delivered newspapers.
Even if it did, would there be anything wrong with that? Tons of people already think we are weirdos for riding a bike in the first place.
