yea Greg I would keep the roof on to straighten it. Push up in sections with a porta power or jack get the inner panels more straight before cutting off the roof. Once you get it back closer into shape it will be easier to get the new parts to line up.
I think I would want to take out those trashy side windows on it, use normal VW ones. I would restore it back to a basic camper, using the best salvageable parts that you have. These vehicles were very simple in their design, so reconstructing the chassis shouldn’t be too bad. The non-bent parts look solid enough. It will ride again ! - definitely worth saving.
Back then (very early 90s), I acquired a 65 23 window (roller) for 500, a 66 camper (driver) for 500 and a 57 11 window for 600 (drove home from dealer lot). What a wonder decade that was.😭
It’s called a porta power. Use a torch to heat the metal as you reshape the metal. I would try to push it back in place before cutting it off to replace. That will help after and give you less work in lining up posts.
A worthy project that I hope gets returned back to its original glory. I would normally say fix the roof and just get it driving. On this one I'd go Allin from rags to richest!
Could you rig up some kind of shoring post or jack to push out the roof. Support the jack or post with a beam sticking out of both doors, supported by cement blocks on either side so the blocks take the pressure and not the floor of the bus.
Demop, in the USA, many panels were converted to campers...then Kombi's were converted. My 67 sundial was a kombi (no upper side vents)....Eccles wrote a book and there were over 20 companies converting these !
Man, that must have been a nice one before the tree fell! I'm both surprised and not surprised that it didn't budge with the tractor... There's some pretty deep valleys and I'm guessing they are locked in because of the damage at the perimeter... I know you've got a plan, but I'd spend an hour on the frame machine getting it pulled square before I cut the roof off. I bet you'd get it 95% that way. BUT, with that roof you've got, maybe it will be easier to just start hackin'!!!
Sorry to see the beetle convertibles being crushed, thought that these are rare and sought after nowadays, mg midget seems to be salvageable to, oh well, can’t save them all.
More poorly filmed, it's difficult, and at least delete the passages where we see the ground during editing. I always found that Americans who have nice, powerful cars could find these mini buses with ridiculous power?
I follow several people who are working on VW Busses. I am now a follower of yours!!! Thank you for doing this!!
@@MZ-gz8vz we are a sick bunch of individuals😂🤦♂️

Got some excellent potential, looking forward to seeing how you get the bus fixed. Great you saved it from the crusher 👍
Love that you’re saving it. I think if you’d strapped it down your idea with the tractor would have worked.
nice save looking forward to more vid's and subscribed
Those two sweet verts!!!

So satisfying, well done
Nice try Greg. Love your work & greetings from sth Australia 🇦🇺 👍 🐨🐪🦘🪃🍻
I love that super beetle vert
From his comments fixing this, even just getting in the ball park, is beyond his capabilities.😮
Hope to see next part 2 video
I recall a friend of mine got a solid ‘67 for about $800 back in the mid to late ‘80’s. Those were the days.

Torch would be of no use
That bus is in nice shape for it’s age.

The question I would be asking; is the frame bent? The center of axle to axle distance would be a quick indicator
Keep it the same way👍
Leave it as a camper but add the either pop up roof or dormobile top(might be difficult to find).
I think dorm mobile tops are reproduced somewhere.
you can buy NEW dormobile top !
@@Mikefngarage Rightr you are Mike, they are like 5K USD and 1K USD to ship them here. Dormobile - just google it.
Awh nice one you got a roof,👌
I was thinking porta power but the tractor works just fine!!!
I would recommend making it as straight and watertight as possible and then using some Sweet Patina products.🤙🏼
Looks like it was a factory panel van, probably put it back to stock.

A roof skin and a bit of glass and your sorted Greg
I'd put it back to what it was. Cool bus.
New sub

Like my older brother said back in 1983 as long as you have the body 🇺🇲northern calif spaniard country
Definitely get the roof with windows if you're going to all that work

love to this get done
Might be able to straighten box when it's out. Be a process though.
I’d love to see what you do with this. Subscribed!
About a grand for a new roof , a little more for the one with windows....
Maybe the cabrio 1303 next to the bus, also worth saved by the crush fate...
They all started off as nice buses...
What?? Super Clean takes off paint and rust?
Back To Stock. With a Old School Paint Job And graphics lines E..T.C. fully furnished.
You bus guys are 🤪
Definitely put it back original
That clean up really changed it your camera man at the begining sucked lol
I would put out the useable parts and scrap the rest.
Put it back to the original camper
if it goes fx it..if it is to bad part it.
LS swap it.
Mod it
