I just learned more about reading indicators in twelve minutes than in the last two years. Amazing, and thank you!

nice work.. seriously Martin, so far I've been through all of your playlists on optimization, indicators and algo for living.
Also seen a lot of stuff from another channels.
So far, your videos are the best, hands down. In fact, I recommend it to all of my collegues who are interested in algo-trading
Keep up a good work! I know, it's doesn't have as much recognition as it should, but know man you are appreciated

Great video! I've watched many videos from you and I really like the way you explain things and pay attention to details. Just wanted to mention the possibility of a hidden divergence here. While you were drawing the price action in the second example (timestamp 10:17 min) you said that there would probably be a bigger pullback than the first. The alternative that came to my mind at that moment was a hidden bullish divergence, which means the oscillator is making a lower low while price is actually making a higher low during an uptrend. I'm sure you know about this concept. That the oscillator traveled into overbought territory afterwards also makes perfect sense when we assume a hidden divergence. Just wanted to suggest that you could keep both alternatives in mind: 1) a bigger pullback or 2) a smaller pullback with hidden divergence. But I understand that a hidden divergence would probably have gone beyond the scope of this video.

This is fantastic advice, a pleasure to watch. Right will try and do the same before I consider coding for it.

Very helpful, indeed. Quite often the hints to try to understand an indicator are "have a look at the code!" Unfortunately, that is not always possible and I'm not that good at interpreting code and some programmers don't code in a friendly way, so this often ends in frustration. Your way is a completely different take and makes sense intuitively. I'll certainly give it a shot.

    • @TradeLikeAMachine

Yes, I find that many coders tend to do that. They think it makes them look more clever :) Personally I prefer well commented understandable code :)

@@TradeLikeAMachine (15-02-2021). Hi Martyn I have been doing this exercise with the RSI, and I am finding it quite difficult, specially when the RSI comes from overbought or oversold leves. I need to do train more.

I think crossing the lines is less more important or maybe completley unimportant, how long the lines remain in some specific area of oscillators scale and the momentum of reaching that levels is the key.

  • @maninder2409

Just a thought, if you are able to foresee the price action just by looking at the indicator then it would mean that indicator would not be an independent variable and you are better off simply using price action rather than that indicator. For variable selection, the variables should be mutually independent in order to have the best predicting capabilities. Correct me if I am wrong, this exercise goes against it, right?

So it felt weird I like it though , doing things differently. What I usually do is eyeball an indicator if I like how it enters trends and it fits the role of my trigger I will automate it visually with 3 other indicators and see how all 4 react to price , my decision will be qualitative but i’ll make sure to back it up by testing after
