    Actually the reason they have a shortage is because the farmer who they used to have a relationship with wanted to raise his price because of irrigation and transportation costs and Hoy Fong decided they would not pay more and severed their relationship with him. That was more than half of the peppers they used. The farmer was blocked by Hoy Fong to sell peppers to any competitors of Hoy Fong, even though they severed ties. Lawsuit results and Hoy Fong loses big time and now they have a shortage of money to buy peppers elsewhere. Of course, the farmer who they lost the law suit to has found new customers and others farmers they used in Mexico are suffering from drought. Hoy Fong brought this onto themselves because of greed and they can only blame themselves. I don't think we'll see Sriracha from Hoy Fong for a long time if ever again. There are other Sriracha makers and I've found a few that are tasty. I still value my hoarded supply of Hoy Fong Sriracha over all other Sriracha at this time.

      I hear about this shortage this spring, when I went to 6-7 stores looking for this brand. I was so disappointed to later hear about the shortage. I’ve tried other brands but they don’t compare at all. So I’ll have to deal with something else I’m the meantime.

    • @walden6272
      @walden6272 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Can't assume it's because of greed that they severe ties with their previous pepper farmer. The Founder of Hoy Fong was a poor immigrant who don't want his sauce to be expensive so more people can afford it. In order to keep the price low, he can't pay high prices for peppers. That was his reason for cutting ties. Ironically, due to his decision and the drought in Mexico, now his sauce is even more expensive. LOL

      Huy Fong Foods changed suppliers before the lawsuit. Underwood Ranches was awarded $23.3M from Huy Fong. That’s what happens when the kids take over the business and ruin what was a great business relationship. I have also switched over to Underwood Ranches sriracha.

      @@shockcoach Sure ignore the fact that Underwood was overcharging them for the product. And, trying to raise the price further,just bussiness though.

    The question is the company should have paid the family farmers that grew his peppers in Fillmore, Santa Paula Ca. and other locations in California. But they stiffed the U.S farmer's for months not paying for the peppers they stockpiled but of course the media never mentions why there is the shortage. U.S Farmer's been in court trying to get paid for what they grew and delivered for months.

    Originally the peppers were from a farmer in the California. But Huy Fung cancelled their contract with this farmer and nearly bankrupted him. He sued and won. Maybe this has something to do with it???

    • @greenknightable

      That farmer was also over charging them for the peppers and trying to further increase the price. Hard to do bussiness with someone you can't trust.

    They are so rich why don't they hire their own people and own farms to grow these peppers? They are not going to stay in business very long because there are other businesses that are starting to catch up with that hot sauce thing.

    If you are lucky to live in or near the '626' Chinese area of Los Angeles, several Chinese stores and restaurants (Kang Kang, for example) sell jars of their own homemade chili sauce that's way better than Sriracha and more authentic to what you would find in Taiwan and China (where they have never heard of Sriracha!)
