My understanding is that the practice of awareness of the self behind thoughts is only to establish yourself in right and wrong action that is in submission to the Devine will. I think very unlikely to die in a state of detachment from thought and action is how we transcend the body. I think it is still ultimately grace that decides if we are worthy of getting another body or not. Simply believe in God and then abide in the self once wrong thoughts and actions arise and eventually the thought/action will arise less and less leaving only constant correct thoughts/actions and self awareness in front of them.
In my universe, grace is the knowledge that there is no one to be worthy or unworthy of anything! The ideas about right and wrong actions are more projections of the ego-mind. They attach to our identity, and that of others, with the fictitious mind-body self. As one quiets oneself and comes to abide in the true self, the self found only in stillness, the self in which we all participate, one observes that compassion, empathy and reverence for life arise naturally and effortlessly as its sweet perfume. We remember these things to be our natural response, requiring no thought at all. All is so simple, and all is such grace. Peace.

The middle man running the show is like. The maneger gets all the work done from many other subordinates and PRESENTINGTO THE BOSS. Sir work is done as you told me to do and gets the credit and the boss knows the truth( not one man’s job)
