I never comment on youtube videos, but I wanted to for this one. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video Kaelyn. I sometimes feel so overwhelmed that I just drop everything. While that's ok, sometimes it has been turning into more of a habit. I am a first-generation student who is applying for masters programs, working a job, and volunteering at a crisis center. I am very intimidated by working on my personal statement and am constantly putting off working on the edits because I just feel I don't have time. This video is so encouraging, and it reminded me that taking care of myself should be my first priority. I also love the naturalness of this video because it feels very relatable and refreshing ( your other videos are gorgeous too. I love both styles). Thank you Kaelyn!
I am not even halfway done with the video (watching while working) but I 100% agree with you when you were talking about not always having to monetize hobbies. It puts unnecessary stress on yourself and eventually, that hobby will feel like another deadline you have to meet. I've had a lot of hobbies over the past few years and whenever I would try and make a social account about them, my productivity hobby-wise slowed and I would feel less passionate.
thank you for sharing your insights on this!!! i love the idea of "hobbiting time" -- i definitely need to make more room for that in my schedule. always love your videos 🤍
Thank you for foregoing the makeup and dressing up to show up for us as you are! I appreciate your videos so much. I'm from CT and will be studying in "London" next Fall after -finally- graduating from a local community college. Technically, I'll be about thirty minutes from Central. I relate to so much on your channel in so many ways, especially the neurodiverse tendencies and wanting to achieve so much. Just sharing my thanks for all of your contributions. You really paint a clear picture of HOW to accomplish your objectives. Sending the best vibes!!
Thank you so much for your honesty! I have such a problem with productivity content because if a person is so busy all the time, where is the time for fun and family and contributing to community? None of that ever gets mentioned. I'm not one to compare myself to others. I compare myself to myself the day before, or the week before or the year before. As long as I'm 1% better each day than I can only keep getting better. Some days are easier than others. Thank you for your content and the variety. I don't see you as "doing it all" it's more like you are able to do everything you want, and you have worked hard to be in a position to be able to do that. Well done!
Kaelyn, thank you for this video. I’ve been sabotaging my life focusing on what is external to me and getting lured in by the comparison game. I’m dedicating today to going through my socials and un-subbing to what makes me feel less than. Then I’ll jot down my priorities, dreams and aspirations on all levels of life and major time for me. I think this has now becoming my favourite video you’ve made. I’ve decided to get back to doing Rhythmic gymnastics again, but for fun and just for me because this was one sport that brought me absolute joy and confidence even through getting bullied in high school. Keep doing what you do - I always leave your videos better than before watching them.
Long time watcher, first time commenter... But this was the video I needed. Having just moved to the UK to start my PhD, self-funding and still teaching online while applying for future grants, trying to balance research and students and personal time and making new friends.... Your transparency throughout your whole journey is such a positive source of inspiration and also realistic expectations. Your videos are honestly a big part of the reason I made it here at all, and feel equipped to take this degree on, while knowing that it is possible (it can be hard, but good things can be hard) to do so while not sacrificing the rest of my life. Anyway. Long story short, thanks for this. And I know you said you'd never make a bookstagram but I love it when you do share recommendations casually! :)
I like the structure of this video. I struggle with time management while being unmedicated with ADHD-C. Lately I’ve been intensely social to my own detriment in some aspects, but to my delight in others. I am going to employ some of your techniques you suggest. Especially #1, and also focusing on doing something every day (even just a little). As an aside, I find it interesting that around the 19 min mark you mention not wearing makeup for the video (since, like you said, it’s not necessary to make it) even though you normally do. While watching the video I had thought how I appreciated the more…casual-ness of the video. It feels like watching a professor in their office, no need for professionalization. Just talking, saying things in a helpful but casual way. Thank you for video. I’ve been watching you for a couple years or so now, and it’s been so nice to see you + your life change over time. Cheers!
Great video! Especially related to the last part on comparisons. It has been hard not to compare myself with other people and their PhD journeys and it has been bad for my mental health. Finding your videos was a breath of fresh air. Thank you!
Hi Kaelyn! This is such a great resource, thanks for prioritizing getting it out there! I think that you made it so down to earth and conversational actually makes it more accessible. I think people are more comfortable trying advice from people who come across as genuine and authentic-and you really do in this video, which is incredibly important because your message has the capacity to change lives for the better. I appreciate that you care more about that, and about walking your talk, than you do about views and such. Thanks again, please keep up the good work! You make a difference!
I won’t lie that I have been comparing myself to you recently. I am a Ph.D student too, and I had a “promising”social media channel that I left because I felt like it was not aligned with me, but after discovering your channel, I felt like maybe I should strive to do it once again, and also try to embark myself in additional and more profitable activities. Nonetheless, now I have been able to transform those feelings into something positive, like inspiration to become my best self. I am no perfect person whatsoever and I can ruminate those negatives thoughts for hours… but I am learning to be patient with myself. Thank you for sharing your journey with us ❤
Kaelyn..you truly are inspiring to me ❤I am a working professional myself and working on my PhD. The amount of tasks to get done and pressures can sometimes be too overwhelming but your tips on time management and sustainable approach is incredible and helpful.
Brilliant as always!! Years ago, you inspired me to apply to grad school, and now you've inspired me to finally start my own channel❤thanks for always keeping it real Kaelyn
This may be one of my favourite video of yours, which says A LOT given that I've religiously watched every single one of your videos for at least 3-4 years now. The reason for this is primarily what you were saying at the end about what is and isn't necessary, about not needing to put on make up, about being wary of content that makes you feel like you should work more. Generally, I find that your videos inspire and motivate me, rather than make me go 'Oh I should have done more'. When I started watching you, I was also starting my PhD and overwork was the norm, such that I turned to your videos for that extra push when I needed it. But over the years, you have experienced burnout, stress, experimented with what works, questioned your values and priorities, and so on. All of this has more or less paralleled my own journey towards a healthy work-life balance and so I found that your content always felt like exactly what I needed at any given stage. To see that I am not alone, to see that others are also starting to question the worth of overwork etc. Nowadays I love your content more than ever, precisely because it reflects that journey. I saw how hard it was for you to find a healthy balance and it may still be tough sometimes but seeing you enjoy riding and reading and other things just fills me with joy and confidence in likewise taking time for myself. That was all to say that, whilst in the past your content may have veered a bit towards the dangerous territory of making me feel like I should work harder, nowadays it exudes positive vibes and health, in a way that is forever inspiring and affirming at the same time. Thank you for everything you do and I wish you a lovely, joyful autumn!
Thank you for this video, it is helping going through grief and burning while trying to get myself back into productivity while respecting where I am in life.
Your "hobbit-ing" sounds similar to hygge, which I've adopted in my life over the last couple of years. I can't believe what a difference it has made in my happiness and well-being! I'm glad you included that on here. :)
Great video! It really embodies the idea that you should not wait to start living, and no one needs to give you permission to live your life the way you want to.
@KaelynGraceApple Thank you so much for your support🙏🌸 I am struggling with a lot of writing deadlines. I am a historian, teacher and mam of three children. Your channel is a boost of positive energy ✨️ ♥️
Thank you so much for this video! I started working in September, I continue my studies at the university, go to the gym, support my hobbies, but I often feel overwhelmed. This video allowed me to look at the situation from a different angle, thank you
Oh thank you so much, this is so supportive. P.S. I did not notice that you did not put on any makeup until you mentioned it HAHA, you are beautiful with and without makeup.
Amazing video Kaelyn! I loved this conversational format. It feels incredibly sincere and raw which are things I think that we need to see more online! And thank you for remembering we are not alone or we are not supposed to be perfect. Your content has been really helpful and gives me so much hope and courage on dealing with too many things! You are a superhero! 🥹💖
Thank you for the video. I loved what you prioritised at the start. While recovering from COVID, I have been thinking about how I can manage my time in the future. Have a good weekend.
Wonderful video, Kaelyn 🙂 The progress over perfection is a great reminder That side of me that strives for perfection forgets that progress is more important- that the growth that comes from progress (not perfection) is more important. So, thank you for that reminder.
Amazing and thank you!! Great tips and thank you for recognising Neurodiversity! That's me! So this is so helpful ❤ I have to learn to switch between being a nurse consultant full time and now studying for PhD and running a family!!
Thankyou so much for all your tips. It helps me a lot. And when u say we dont need to doing all things just bcoz we can or what others expect to us, thats really wake me up. Thats make me understand what makes me have a hard time. Thankyou, thankyou so much
I'm a chronic perfectionist, who never gets anything perfect, but with 5 young kids, I've really had to train myself to embrace progress over perfection. I'm doing a million things at once, and sometimes I'm on fire, and other times, I survived the day, having chipped away at a small piece of everything.
Hi @Kaelyn! I love learning how to structure your days to accomodate all you do. I'd love to know how you manage the finances? The incoming and outgoing finances month on month living in London.
I’m a bit lost and not doing well right now (and turning 40 in December which doesn’t help), so that kind of video really helps. I mean I am still lost 😂 but it gives me inspiration
The fact that I took no notice whatsoever if you were wearing make up or even noticed what you were wearing indicates to me that it is not how you look but what you are talking about that is most important. Do male TH-camrs worry about their appearance? Probably not. I don't think people watching your channel have those expectations-it is the media that pushes it onto women. Just my opinion.
Literally I was JUST thinking of asking you in an Instagram comment how you juggle everything, cuz I also had 3 part-time internships, assessment tasks for full-time jobs and hectic choir rehearsals at the same time, along with my own content and I wasn't able to manage all of it, and so I wasn't delivering as well on the internships and had to let go of 2. I still have one but the choir concert and rehearsals also became chaotic. Hopefully I'll be able to get a job soon enough. Thanks for the tips cuz I REALLY needed help in figuring this out!
I just made a sticky note to remind myself at work progress > perfection. This comes shortly after meeting with a professor that is helping me with grad school who told me I might not be able to work full time (it's necessary for living means) and be able to go to grad school for history. As long as I'm making progress to the end goals that I want, then it is better than trying to do it all at once in order to have bragging rights or feeling "productive"

Thank you friend♥️ I think the misconception about the 4am wake up is that I’m doing it so I have the evening after work to be with my partner and read 🥰 I’m an early bird and would much rather follow my natural rhythms of energy than do intellectual work after a long day on the job
