    Love the information, I’m a beginning lock smith and 20 years of age and I really appreciate you breaking it down and really showing what the lock is. I just want to thank you for the hard work you do to post these videos online; for beginners like me to learn. Please please please keep posting new and different locks I Guarantee that I will watch them.

    Thanks for your review Catus. Do you have any recommendations for good budget puck locks? Thanks so much.

    Yeah love the idea to protect shackle . Most thieves just carry cutters eithe rthe shackle or chain I think and not many talk about a very tough chain which they should . I never had to lock up much with padlocks but yeah a tough as nails chain be needed

  • @frankmontez6853
    @frankmontez6853 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah when it comes to cutting other things like catalytic converters thieves use different things but for padlocks mostly use bolt cutters or saws not many knows how to pick em . Either cut padlock or chaIin

    Nice video.
    You should have also suggested making the top pens longer than the stock top pin to prevent over lifting attacks.

    • @joshuajohnson9237
      @joshuajohnson9237 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Consider the following... you pull back on the bore holes to make them more shallow. Deep enough for the key pins to reach the shear line but not so much that both pins plus spring can be forced past shear line completely?

    • @joshuajohnson9237
      @joshuajohnson9237 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would that work? Because if so one could fix the issue by doing less instead of adding more material

    • @mumbles1justin
      @mumbles1justin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joshuajohnson9237 that would be the fix from a manufacture perspective. The suggestion I was making was for an end user to correct the manufacture flaw.

    • @mumbles1justin
      @mumbles1justin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joshuajohnson9237 the over lifting flaw is found in almost all puck locks manufactured despite the brand.

    Need advice. My Harbor Freight Puck lock on my trailer permits the key to turn, but when I pull down the key, it won't pull down the internal shaft in order to remove the lock from my trailer door. So, what can I do? Thanks....

    on trailers thieves cut the hardware onthe doors and such unfortunately i had them do that on a expensive Haulmark enclosed trailer luckily for me the trailer was usually pretty empty untill i had to haul motorcycles that were stored somewhere else i did however have Master puck locks on all the entry doors my Locksmith dealer /distributor told me those were the best ones at that time ?

      American Lock Series A2500 is a much better puck lock. 6 pin with all security pins and all the pins are steel. It also has a fundamentally different design which is much stronger than a traditional Puck lock where the whole key cylinder slides out

    No mention of how pick or bump proof it is. Doesn't matter though, its displayed weakness are more than enough for me to reject it. Thanks!

      The reality of Harbor Freight locks as you should not buy them they provide a false sense of security against anyone who does even cursory research on them

      @benjoseph260 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CatusMaximus You say don't buy them, but in the video you say for about 3 bucks you can modify them to be a good lock. Which is it?

    What good is a lock when all the keys are cut the same? I bought 3 for my trailer and when I seen my 3 had matching keys I checked all the locks on the shelves with my key and they are all the same

    • @kevinroberts5140
      @kevinroberts5140 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe in your case, however I had to buy seven of these just to find two with matching keys.

    • @ShawnMtz_78
      @ShawnMtz_78 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably got them "keyed-alike" ... Something you have to look out for... There's usually a code on the lock or packaging maybe if you have gotten three different locks from three different harbor freights, yeah, I know but you'd probably end up with three different keys 😏

    Typically, if a thief wanted to work that hard, they would have a job in the first place.
    Also, if someone did attempt to remove the lock core with a screw, would the lock be stuck in place forever? Also, I don't guess most thieves are going to carry Viking drill bits.You'd probably go through a whole set Dee-dee deeeeewalt bits to get through that core, right?

    • @cwheels01
      @cwheels01 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can pull that core out and defeat the lock relatively quickly with the right set of tools. Or you can pick it quietly and probably more quickly.

    It's funny with these locks. They are physically near impossible to get through, and then the cylinders are complete garbage. Many can be opened with a comb pick, and those that can't, are still just brass with brass pins and no drill protection. Also, the core can be pulled with a core puller. That hardened pin won't protect against pulling, you just destroy the brass core.
