Thank you so much for this information. First time coming across your channel. I’m a practitioner of Chinese medicine and don’t want to take psychotropic drugs for depression and this info really helps.

@@jrman413 well I've successfully gotten off of my SSRI meds. Which feels pretty good. Unfortunately the saffron dident do a whole lot for me. But I'm thinking of trying it again soon

Hello I currently take Zoloft and recently added a product called Golden Saffron. Can you please let me know which brand you recommend in order of avoiding bad saffron products thank-you
It's effects on neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine have been proposed but not proven to my knowledge. Some potential mechanisms include: 1. Antioxidant effects. Depression causes stress on the body and antioxidants can help to prevent damage. 2. Anti-inflammatory effects. People with depression have higher markers of inflammation. Decreasing inflammation in the brain can help decrease long-term damage. 3. Hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) effects. Saffron may lower the HPAs response to stress. 4. Neuroprotective effects. Saffron was shown to increase brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in rats. BDNF is like a fertilizer for brain cells and helps them to grow stronger.
@@ashleyzeleznik3096 I actually stopped for a while to limit variables as I tested other supplements. But I found myself going back to saffron and I usually have a saffron tea every few days. I think it works for me.
Hi how are You doing I am currently looking for something to treat depression. Also I was on a benzodiazepine, and the doctor abruptly stopped it, and that has left me in a severe depression that seems to do that to everybody that has been on a benzo. What work the best for you. I hope that you are doing well.
Really good question. Since it is not studied like approved medications, I do not have any evidence of if it causes withdrawal or not. So I would probably taper down just to be safe.
@@DanGreer I was taking Saffron as an appetite suppressant prescribed by my doctor. I noticed that my dreams were more vivid and I was also feeling kind of disconnected, very similar to when I took antidepressants 5 years ago. I decided to stop at once, and now I have some symptoms of discontinuation syndrome. I have racing thoughts, a little social phobia, invasive thoughts, etc... It's been a week since I stopped and I'm still feeling it, I hope that by next week it will be gone. So given that I'm feeling this, I believe that for some people the process of stopping taking should be done gradually, just like you do with antidepressants.
Saffron has "generally recognized as safe" status in the US for use as a spice or food coloring agent. There are no long-term safety trials to truly assess for this.

Can anyone who try saffron for depression or anxiety how it feels...,will it make you sleepy or slowed same like antidepressants?
I didn't feel really anything, just gradually felt a little better

Did you feel better immediately or it took days/weeks of consumption before you felt some changes in your mood?

There is no evidence that I am aware of to show which way is better
