When you're listening to the printed mix is the G-Bus compressor bypassed as well on playback, or does that also need to be deselected as well to avoid re-compression? Just trying to wrap my head around the signal path.
It does not have to be deselected. If you do the method I did in the video where the output of that specific channel is channels 15-16 on the Big Six, then once you switch over to listen to EXT 2 instead of Main, you'll notice that it is not affected by the G-Bus comp, and it can be tested by turning up the makeup gain and flipping the on/off for the compressor and making sure there is no gain being added when you do that.
Im thinking about getting big 6 and im not really trying to sum im just trying to go the old fashioned fat way of running my hardware(Mpc,Keyboards etc) thru the big 6 into pro tools. I see alot if videos that are basically summing with it but not too many videos running actually balanced cables from hardware thru the channels and mix it and from there into pro tools… Can you do a tutorial showcasing the big 6 like that my man? Great video btw…
Thank you man and sure thing. I can definitely do something like that for you. That is exactly what I do too. I use my Big Six for things like my MPC and synths going into my computer so I’ll show how I do that.
thank you! is it possible to put a software limiter on the summing mix before you print the mix? To mix into it?
Yes it is! I’ve done this before to ensure I don’t peak past -0.1
