yea it is kibd of crazy that a massive corp. like roland would be willing to work directly with a pretty small indie developer like elf audio and integrate their $2.99 app. it really speaks to how amazing koala is.

Absolutely perfect! The looping function has reinvigorated the SP for the better in my case. I never thought it could be implemented into the already dense 404 workflow, and now a couple of compositions in and it's basically all I really wanted to write and get inspired on my SP. Plus many more features years into the life cycle of the product is pure gold.. All other music gear companies take note, Bravo Roland!
My MKII comes in today, crazy timing with the update! im so excited to start messing around with it as I have alot to learn since the last "sampler" i had was a PO-33 KO.
4 days ago i got myself a Sp 404 mk2 and all i can say is that this gear is incredible. I had a really long break from beat making, i'm not even close to be a professional or something but i feel creative again.
Great updates Roland. Thank you. One slept on feature comes from the MS-1 and, that is the custom midi mapping of all pads individually to whatever midi note you want. (For those users unaware, the MS-1 is the grandfather machine of the entire SP line). It's something so simple that I keep asking for and, not sure why it was never added. This slept on feature alone would consolidate the integration of this SP with MPCs and, other devices. It's 2024. For example, I have my MPC 2KXL`s top 8 pads directly mirroring and controlling pads 1-8 on the MS-1. All 16 pads of the SP404MK2 should be able to mirror any MPC`s 16 pads by custom midi mapping.
Man if only we could merge the pattern chain into a single pattern. Then you could make stems for a whole beat in one motion. The final piece of the puzzle. Hopefully they will add 8 bars to the looper. I'd hoped the looper would record directly a selected pad, so you could use in a live scenario. With all that said, this shit is amazing. They are indeed killin it.
I think looper can be set to record either full MIX or only EXTIN (by holding shift = more options). So you can record pad sounds as well. But 8 bars would be even better!!! Agreed.

I’ve given my SP404 MK2 as a gift to my younger brother, knowing that the time would be right to get another one for myself. Then after watching a few videos after the 4.04 firmware update was released, I ordered a new one for me. The looper, the stems export, and other quality of life improvements…Roland is on it. It also says a lot about how this little box that could just keeps getting better and better. Impressive.
This is an amazing update! I think the only other thing that would make the SP404 one of the best affordable sampler on the marker right now is the possibility to have a band pass filter per sample like the one on the Digitakt, in order to avoid destructive filtering resampling and to be accessible like the Start/End tweaks
@@bjamminsincebirth3494 I use the op1 for the midi keyboard. Haven’t figured out how to map the knobs yet but midi cc would definitely be dope. I’m sure it’s in the pipeline or they may make a separate knob controller.
Only thing we need now is a battery indicator. There was one in the og 404, how we don’t have one now in 2024 beats me. Other than that, great job, Roland!

The MC 707 / 101 needs an editor for the synth, a simple compression / add sidechain function would also be great. Down low, I feel like Roland is been taking the easy way out, nut when it comes to the SP-404, they being showing they know how to do updates and improve a product to the max. Kudos for that.
Had to double check I didn't get fooled by a devilishly cruel prank for the 1st of the month upon learning about these new features, almost sounded too good to be true honestly, it's like Roland were spying on conversations I had in the last few months were I fantasized about a possible future update where they'd add a proper live looping feature and make this already SSS- Class instrument the perfect piece of gear for my needs...The fact they really did it, amongst a fat load of other excellent features, even as they didn't "need" to do shit for the device to sell more than well enough, gives me the highest respect for Roland and the love they've consistantly shown their customers and the craft of legendary pieces of music gear. I am for real ecstatic about this update, wishing all my fellow SP-Dawgs to have a blast with these new features
Thanks for the update! 3 future features I would like to request: 1-longer skipback time, if possible 2-"VHS" fx (similar to current "cassette" fx) 3-for the sound not to cut out when you turn the encoder in Chromatic mode (playing notes then turning the encoder to reach other octaves will currently cut out the notes you are playing) Thanks for your consideration ! I have been thinking about these for a while thought I might mention them here now that I see you are still updating the mkii
Man, you guys kicked it out of the park. Thanks a lot for the "Recording midi notes into patterns without having to have a blank sample on them". I use my 404 with some analogue mono synths and being able to use it as a "mothership" is super helpful. I bought my 404 this year, and it's so freaking fun to mess around, but it just got even better with this
Would love to see some multitrack integration/love with the Tascam consoles. If you could make it so that the SP would run with the Tascam (Model 24) via usb thus sending each pad to a track on the mixer... that would be rad.
This makes the sp even more of a great tool for experimental and ambient music! Seemless loops, where the end of the loop bleeds into the begginin of the loop is a game changer😊
I'm coming from this angle as well and I also have a percussion background. I have been making okay drum loops but finding that the looper picks up the 1 beat again which makes it sound a bit off
Trying it now the koala integration is exceptional. It’s like a really good dedicated koala controller. It extends both devices and opens up new workflows. It also opens up new ways of finishing tracks without a computer.
Please create an updated version with large colorful touchscreen, ease of use, highest and best wireless/Bluetooth capabilities and optional features like stem separation and mpe.
Hey @RolandChannel ! Thank you for another great update! Here are some suggestions for future update: 1. When using sound generator, would be nice to access this feature with Poly Mode on by default to be able to try waves playing polyphonic melodies and not be stuck with mono. 2. Still in sound generator, would also be very nice to have access to ADSR by pressing ''start/end'' or ''pitch/speed'' before even resampling. 3. When playing Chromatic Poly Mode, would be awesome to have an arpeggiator by holding ''Roll'' and different pads. 4. Now that you've added additional scales in ''Chromatic'' menu, i would love to see a ''chord mode'' that would be a game changer... 5. Make the ROLL feature more fun to use just like on any MPC worlflow, when pressing a pad while ROLL is pressed activate the ROLL effect, different time divisions could be accessed by pressing ROLL + BANK A to J, favourite time divisions could be set and saved in a dedicated menu just like favourite FXs... Again thank you for the time and effort you put in order to update our favourite toy
Same thought here, I'm utterly overwhelmed with so many combos...Everytime I try to use the sp, I need to have the manual by my side, to relearn every combo I need.

feature-request: 1, let Looper sync with the project, bank tempo or even a single sample. 2, if a Looper audio combines multiple takes, audios, and parts. It can be separated to different pads after records, without stopping playing music. 3, let Looper define the globe project tempo, and be able to put new records (by using Looper) directly into the pattern sequencer.
I have a mpc one, but i am very seriously considering getting this one instead. This koala integration >>>> akai`s “coming soon” stems separation ( which is gonna cook the mpc lol). I think theres huge potential in keeping the hardcore heavy lifting like stems separation, timestretch etc on our very powerful phones/pads, and then work on connect ability to other hardware. Very promising, Roland !
Theyre not aiming AT doing the same thing AT all. This is a very in depth sampler while the KO II IS a super intuitive easy fast workflow sampler. Not saying KO II does not lack key features but comparing these two makes 0 sense would be like comparing microfreak and Roland s1
Wow… the support for this machine has been incredible. Love it. I gotta say though… all these features kinda require a new form factor. This workflow is getting out of hand with all these cheat codes required 😂 I know though, people love the form. I also love the form.
Please update this machine from looking like an old scientific calculator to a modern looking device with large touch screen, can have knobs &/or faders, mpe welcomed, can be bigger to accommodate these features, also. Let’s go!

Awesome update! Every flaw is fixed now. This finally makes the SP404MKII the perfect sketchpad for dawless music production.
unfortunately the update also included some bugs which crashes the SP when resampling ... I hope a fix is coming soon.

Theyre not aiming AT doing the same thing AT all. This is a very in depth sampler while the KO II IS a super intuitive easy fast workflow sampler. Not saying KO II does not lack key features but comparing these two makes 0 sense would be like comparing microfreak and Roland s1

Wow… the support for this machine has been incredible. Love it. I gotta say though… all these features kinda require a new form factor. This workflow is getting out of hand with all these cheat codes required 😂 I know though, people love the form. I also love the form.

Yeah, I want the same and have done for a while. Need dedicated buttons for all the different features. Not a fan of these 3 button combos
