Back when I was scared, I lived in sanctuary dungeons. Sure I got a %less gold/loot drop but it was consistent gains for a new player with no gold or valuable trade items. I'll still go to a sanctuary dungeon today if I lose enough loot to PKs in a regular dungeon. Sanctuary is good for the game despite those who disagree. I probably would have quit the game if they didn't have them because PKs don't care if your an amateur or veteran but in sanctuary it's safe for new players to learn and get established. To build up confidence in a dungeon then risk it all next week when that dungeon goes back to normal.
Wrong. Bad pks kill blues whiout aspect or in level one in a Dungeon. I give my loot tô New players. Kisses Botan. Ps: If you are going tô the dark side dont kill minners and lumbers.
The sanctuary dungeon does have lower XP, its based on the gold I believe. As a solo player you can really tell. As you said, it was how I learned various dungeons as a new player. Honestly due to the lower money/loot it is better to find somewhere else to farm though but having a single dungeon as an option to ease people into Outlands is a great idea.
I just started last weekend and I've only used one of the newbie dungeons that was Sanctuaried with the lastest patch, but I think it's a good thing too, and that's coming from a '97 vet that hated Trammel. Being able to learn the dungeons and where the escapes are is good for players that don't feel comfortable joining a guild yet, or those who just want to play alone or in a small group. Let's not forget that in UO you could just recall away as soon as a red name popped up, granted you didn't have the scripting capabilities of Razor but still about 95% of targets made it out as soon as people learned to have enough magery to recall.
Welcome to Outlands! If you have not yet joined a guild, I highly recommend doing it. We (Knights of Ultima) are recruiting! I like sanctuary dungeons and will still visit them from time to time when the normal dungeons are hot with reds or if I want to tame something that is located in the sanctuary dungeon and not have to worry about the reds while attempting to tame it.
@@xenokronwicked I saw a guy with a Yew tag above his head, and back in '98 I had that same tag on Atlantic, so I joined them. Got a good headstart as they helped me with unlocking aspect and the codex' Joining a guild is probably the best new player advice. It also helps that no matter where you are in your journey you're always contributing to the guild, so they also 'need' you.
@@xenokronwicked It's really enjoyable so far. Not the greatest of fan of the extensive scripting; I get it when it comes to the tedious archaic mechanics of the original, but you can basically script a char to play itself. But atleast I can choose not to do that and actually still have to press buttons :) And I wouldn't have mind if the character limit was a bit lower... maybe a Siege Perideux; not quite just one char, but 2 or 3. I get it from the shard owner's perspective though as more characters keeps players playing and being able to experience all facets of the game.
I think they're a great thing. The server needs all kinds of players for the best possible UO experience. It is very rough out there for a new player who more interested in the PVM aspects of the game.
I like sanctuary dungeons simply because when you leave shelter island you only have 80 in all skills. You don't have a chance against PKs. They give you a chance to raise your skills other then beating a dummy . They are just another form of progression in the game
I agree 100% and it allows you to see some of the specials that the mobs have so you know what you are up against. Mobs in Outlands are so much more fun to fight than prodo or prodo-like freeshards.
Even better if you just want to explore a new dungeon. Go to the Test Shard, where you can self rez and teleport to any floor. Except Time, that placed is locked on test because of all the secrets. I was concerned about Sanctuary when I heard about it at first, but I think its fine, especially for new players. UO is a very brutal game to get started, so having a step up from the newbie dungeon can be good.
I have not thought about test center dungeons to be honest but I prefer live game so I can test current skills out against mobs and see if I can handle them before trying in the normal version with the threat of reds as well.
Theres a difference in aspect and codex for sure, but not with levelling skills. Sanctuarys are good for passive skill gains when you are levelling skills, and for testing setups for dps. Skinning I think yields the same in sanctuarys and you can take your avarite skinning knife, also mobs stay alive longer down there so you can sometimes get some big loots if one has been spawned a long time and not killed. I got a command core off those blood apes on lvl 1
@@xenokronwicked Yea I spent an afternoon visiting every point of interest in the guilds rune library and killing whatever was around. I got a fair bit of good loot since they werent popular farming spots.
I farm everything, everywhere. There are times when I just want to chill and zone out and gain some XP without worrying about thieves, PKs and getting looted when I die. It's a "meditative" dungeon for me where I'm semi-farming (Half XP/Loot) but without any of the downsides. It's not worth it if you just want to straight up grind for XP and loot. That's my personal opinion, in general it's good for new players because there are times when I see nubs get straight up murdered by PKs and half the time I ask myself if those nubs will even return to the game. You have to have a gimmick or sancturary for new players in the backdrop of a vicious UO world.
Im glad for sanctuary dng. Im a new player and I sorta use it to explore 1 dungeon at a time until im more powerful. These damn codex's take FOREVVVVER to level up. Is it much faster if you spam clear dungeons with a group or about the same exp?
Sanctuaries only give 1/2 of everything so you are much better going on a guild run with share XP checked. You will level your codex and aspects much quicker that way. Plus the with the loot distribute, you will make a lot more gold that way. I have a blast on our guild farming runs and the mini and boss fights are even more fun.

@@xenokronwicked no i like the Idea of sanctuary Dungeon. Every week changes to another Dungeon and new players can explore and know How to Farm in the Dungeon. In sanctuary Dungeon you cant steal or loot another player. Is safe but ia half experience and gold
they're good. newer players who dont wanna risk gear can go there and learn the game.... I personally like the risk so i stay out of there.... only complaint is it should be renammed the trammy dungeon for nostalgia reasons😂
@xenokronwicked 50% penalty exp and gold? Its like volunteering to earn half ur salary doing the same work and working the same hours as before at ur job
I agree to an extent. I don't think it is good as a regular thing to do but I think it helps new players and allows people to learn the dungeon. I see some good in it and it is nice that it rotates so its not always the same.
I agree with this. You can explore dungeons without them being sanctuary. Pks are not hiding round every corner. We’ve all been new and got on fine, your going to die sometimes. I think it’s specifically for people who want a tram experience and that’s fine! Each to there own
Just to add to this. I think sanctuary is good for outlands. It caters to those kind of players without changing it much for everyone else. Will boost player base imo

I like sanctuary dungs specialy Inferno, i set my fortune aspect to lvl 14 and it is only fun killing deamons
