yeah dude, the problem whith the no talking is that there is no information about the measures of the pieces, the temperature in the forge nor the time of flaming of the piece. no Intel about the problems the piece presents While macking or how to fix those problems.

The morning star was typically a peasant's club on steroids... force multipliers with armor piercing potential. Something for the "little guy" to punch above his weight against armored opponents. Over time it was re-imagined and adopted by the military-proper; the ones you see in museums (and in this video) are examples of the design taken to its limits.
It's primary use was to rip the plate armour off an opponent. The little spikes dig into the armour and the inertia of the club part rips the armour plate off its leather bindings. It was good against helmets too, to rip the helmet off the head or rotate it with great force.
Spikes when fighting plate are mostly to prevent glancing blows They rarely pierced plate However anything less than plate or brigandine the other guy would have some nasty new orfices
@@nean9894 yeah glancing blows the mace slips and doesnt impart the kinetic energy into the target. With the spikes, the mace can grip the armour plate and rip it off if the blow has any sideways momentum, or if it is a very accurate blow it is like you said.
@@wizrom3046 Doesn't sound realistic to me. Lets say a bit of armor does come off and gets stuck onto the spike, now your weapon is clumsy thus making you an easy target or the armor stays but your weapon is stuck. The spikes are there for something else completely i imagine. Besides i think you're greatly underestimating the construction of medieval armor, rarely was it only straps. Full plate armor was often shut completely around the limb, chest, etc. with steel hinges, since you don't want just that to happen because its a lot of hard work to make it and expensive.
For the spikes I would recommend you try and get soil penetrometer probe tips. The weld onto the bolt may be strong, but that would potentially be a weak point due to the inability to get the weld all the way to the middle of the bolt.
Truly a "Substantial" build Koss! Planning, cutting grinding, turning, drilling, tapping and welding all those pieces is as impressive as the finished product. Great Welding too! Love the leather wrapping and end cap. Like the Hulk says; "Smash"! Another beautiful piece for your record book, Koss. Thanks for always "Bringing It" to us!!

Very Impressive I love the way you made it look the design it’s self is nice and honestly I don’t really see anything wrong with it honestly if I was you I would never sell it I would hang it on my wall :D
That thing's a beauty!!! EXcellent job Mr. Koss 👏👏👏. Love it! And a valiant attempt at getting all the spikes into the furnace in one go there mate 😂😂😂. 😎
Pro tip, tac the ends of your weld, not the center. For the spikes being attached to the bolt, I also think you should run a gap weld next time, to ensure proper metal fusion.
Smashing Excellence Koss! Amazing craftsmanship and detail on point! btw, could I borrow it for a day?🤫...🤭 Thank You my friend for sharing the build of such a beautiful piece🤝 ☆Jay☆
Excellent work, thank you for sharing! From the practical point of view, the wooden handle (oak?) might be a weak link and I would also suggest another screw across it to secure to the head. Please, don't mind my engineering critique. 🙂
First hit that head is coming off because it's just glued on. No fastening like a bolt through the wood to ensure it holds on from especially hard blows. But otherwise really awesome build
Those look like about 1/2in steel plates for the head. Based on a few sledgehammers of about the same size as those plate stacks, that thing probably weighs close to 12-15lbs. Don't worry, it's a dead-blow enough without shot inside.
First rate work at every point, but it seemed like a long-winded way round to get to where you wanted to be. Machining the head from solid would weigh more, but weight is not a problem in a morningstar until it is unmanageable. The spikes could surely be made in one piece (rather than welding them onto machined bolt heads), and "sweated" into the holes in the head.
I was wondering how morning star would be produced with medival technology and i think the way to create it in order to be solid is to cast it, if you want spikes to be extra strong, you may forge them, plance in mould and cast the "head", so it traps and holds spikes, but not sure if spikes will stay quenched.

Finally some who knows what a morning star is.
Yes I knows the morning star in game of Shadow fight 2........😂🎉
Isn't Jesus the Bright Morning Star? I wonder how intimidating and deadly He would look descending from Heaven like a valkyrie
was about to comment that im glad that there are people who know the difference between a morning star and a flail
Simple a morning star is a mace with teeth. If you put a chain between the head and handle it becomes a flail.
@@user-gh8sg7oc9r Actually, Lucifer translates from latin as The Morning Star. Lucifer was the morning star not Jesus.

All that engineering glued onto a broom handle.

A metal handle would destroy your joints
I had the exact same thought. 😢
You absolutely need something to dampen the vibrations lol

Very disappointed. I wanted to see it up against a cinder block.
Great job, now a video of a test.
Probably just as well. The head was held on by glue and a screw.
Would have been sick to see it smash some sticks or planks though
