Romeo Lavia has been a popular name this transfer window, with many elite clubs circling on the 19 year old defensive midfielder.
The Belgian was a bright spark in Southamptons relegation campaign last season, and looks to become a serious star of the future with both Liverpool and Manchester United chasing his signature.

I can't take him serious because he claims to be a big united fan but I seen him on a show before and they wanted to know his favourite Paul Scholes moment and he couldn't name one.
Have to say as a Southampton fan, Lavia was our best player by miles last season. Was the only one who really showed any passion and always clapped the fans. If he does go he will go far. He is the next big thing. Trust us.
Would Southampton be keen on any players in a swap from say Liverpool out of interest? Nat Phillips seems Leeds bound. Kaide Gordon, Bobby Clark and Tyler Morton could all do with with a loan at least if not more.

In a longer more thought out response: We are not interested in doing any of Liverpool's work for them. We will not take players that are not particularly beneficial for us. Nat Phillips does not suit our new style as a ball playing CB. We want to control possession and play it out from the back. Even if he could do that which I doubt, he's aging and often injured. As for the young players you mentioned I don't think they're ready for senior football at a side pushing for promotion. Liverpool won't get any discounts on the Lavia deal by handing us their fringe players. We'd MUCH rather take the £50m and use it on our own targets that suit our system.

Without a great amount of watchable games, the data set isnt there to fully assess a player so young. Even so, just by going by this small subset and "the eye test" I see no reason Lavia cant be an absolute monster with the trajectory hes already on. At only 19 he clearly has the physicality to mix it with teams at the premier league level, so pair that with a world class coach like Klopp, Pep or even Poch and he has the ability to be up there with the best DMs of his generation.

We seriously need an excellent defensive midfielder (6), but I've been seeing that Lavia is more of a deep-lying playmaker that can sometimes tackle. We already have Enzo as an 8. We seriously need a defence-minded player.
Lavia is an excellent player by many metrics but his defensive stats aren't as impressive as Caicedo.

Great video! One recommendation for Carl is for him to be mindful about speaking slightly slower. His points seem rushed at times because he's speaking so quickly.
Speaking quickly is not really an issue for podcasts or conversations but video essays or general explanations would be best served with a slower cadence.
Just my two cents as someone who enjoyed the video but thought it could be improved slightly.

I'd say Caicedo is closer to being a complete midfielder or box to box midfielder. Basically whatever Lavia can do, Caicedo can do better plus a lot more especially in attack. Caicedo is considered a player ready to be in contention as a starter for a starter whereas Lavia i see being a player you bring on late as a sub or play in the cup games

I'd like another midfielder too, more experienced than Lavia, but doesn't have to be someone in their late 20s. Also someone who can play No 6 or No 8. Manu Kone is due back from injury next week... he'd be a super buy. He's physically ready for the Prem + we can probably sign him for under £30m, possibly £25m. Thiago can play the No 6 role until Klopp feels Lavia is ready. If we get Kone, he can also be eased into getting more minutes as Mac Allister and Szobozslai will start the season no doubt
