I hate to say this, but Chicken Tikka Masala is indeed an Indian dish, because of the use of Indian spices like curry powder, garam masala, tandoori masala, and so forth.
Tikka Masala has made it to the menus in North India. I am a firm believer that tikka masala is a western adaption of Murgh Makhani (butter chicken). They have a few differences, but they still have things in common based on the fact that they both are tomato based gravies with tandoori murgh tikka simmered in them. Besides, the madras curry powder is more of a british invention. I don't know much indians who use curry powder as it makes most dishes taste the same.
But i still support Anjum and her idea that TIkka Masala is a adaption of butter chicken. Lots of similarities, but yet some differences. Yes it is. But it did make it to the menus in india. The version i had there was a lot thicker, it also included capsicum and onion chunks. It might be BIR, british indian restaurant food. But it ain't authentic Indian food.
Please listen to the Asian people on here when they say the food is all wrong. As someone who has been married to an Asian man for 16 years we DO NOT cook this rubbish. It is NOT in any way authentic. She is coming across to the western audience like this is what Indians really eat, well....it’s not ! Trust me. I’ve made indian/Pakistani dishes for 16 years and been to various parts of Pakistan and India and tasted different cuisine, and what she’s showing you is western rubbish. She talks like she’s very well educated on Indian cuisine, but she talks absolute drivel because she knows we westerners won’t know the difference. I tried making one of her chicken dishes many years ago when we first got married because I didn’t know any better back then, and my husband looked at it and tasted it and said “don’t be offended sweetheart, but don’t copy from this lady next time, because this is not what we eat, my family will show you how to cook proper Asian food”. As an experienced cook in all Indian cuisine now having learned from true Asian people (my in laws) I can tell you she is misleading westerners.I think Waitrose sponsors her or she makes food for them because you can tell it’s made for the western palate and not what real Indians eat!! Please try cook with saima or cook with faiza on you tube and you will learn how to make proper authentic food. I always use cook with saima at home. Her dishes, and her presentation is second to none.
Anjum Anand's dish is way off! This is not Indian cooking at all. Her style of cooking is modified for westerners and their palate. This is so un-authentic it's unreal.
Not both of them are good. Anjum is in now way; even in the same league. I respect Cyrus as he's old school, trained to a classic level. Its obvious. She knows nothing. Wake up Britain.
She is so fake!! Thank you for sharing this with us. I am married to an Asian man from Islamabad 16 years and we do not cook this garbage. She’s an embarrassment

@@7an7ara all that was 'invented' was the addition of a gravy to a tikka masala. 99% of the dish was already invented.

Tomatoes in marinades makes chicken tough!
How?
walkthelineable well. Lots of chefs claim that its the acidic content in tomatoes that do it.
i see, but i believe acidity helps break down and tenderise the meat, the greek yogurt is the base for these marinades and are acidic.
The female cook is disagreeable -- nagging attitude.
