  • The largest egg producer in the United States said Tuesday that it temporarily ceased operations at one of its Texas facilities after detecting bird flu in chickens - the latest in a steady uptick of cases among U.S. farm animals in recent weeks.
Cal-Maine Foods said it culled about 1.6 million hens and 337,000 pullets (young hens) after some of its chickens at a Parmer County, Texas, facility tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), caused by influenza A viruses that spread widely among wild and domestic birds.
Officials have said the risk to human health remains low. But the CDC has warned that people with unprotected exposure to infected birds or other animals, including livestock, are at greater risk of infection.

Monoculture is a larger problem with a lack of genetic diversity, making animals and plants in industrial farming widely susceptible to pathogens. Although the press hasn't given other similar out brakes of viral, bacterial and fungal infections on farming in the recent past. In 2019, pork prices rose in the US, when Swine Flu caused China to cull millions of hogs destined for our markets. We can't forget mad cow disease in the 1980's, can we? In 2021, 16 states suffered crop losses due to Cerearl Rust causing volatility and rising prices in the market. So you see, not only supply chain problems affect food prices. 😳

You would think this would result in laws or policies to help reduce the risks but the opposite is true. We get shit like this every couple of months, just follow safe eating and cooking habits (washing hands, checking food temperatures, etc) and you’ll be fine. It’s more of a risk to farmers and processing plant workers than consumers.

Along with how organic eggs for these businesses kill more chickens than standard layouts. Its very horrible how people in cali complain which cause fhe fda to change how its lay out leading to higher deaths and more sickness.

From what i can tell Organic farming at scale is all bullshit.
A family raising a handful of chickens and pigs and such for their own use. Yeah whatever. Fine.
As soon as you scale it up to anything that can feed a sizable population organic farming makes no sense whatsoever.

Im in Minnesota, and our farm got bird flu 1-2 years ago...
So i think im the one they're talking about 😂
We culled out flock (30 birds) and destroyed and burried the (20 dozen) eggs that were in our fridge and chicken boddies under 6 inches of dirt or more...
I caed thw DNR when multiple birds were dying each day, they came and agreed we had Avian Flu on the property (they paid us arpund $15 per chicken and like 30 cents an egg to kill/destroy them)
(Warning next part is about cats dying)
My twin 1 year old cats both caught it and died also..😢 they said it was the firat case they knew of jumping to cats...
Then i spent 90+ hours awake and trying to keep the cats alive... i can't think about it or ill cry, it was the most traumatic thing ive gone thru.
I shot video of it but i cant/wont watch it (recorded for educational purposes) just incaae a veterinarian wanted the information
Anyways i say this to say
DONT LET YOUR CATS EAT DEAD BIRDS... (not that thats what caused mine) because they might be dead from Avian flu...
If they kill it themselves its probably 10 times less likely to have the disease
