- Today I show you the proper way to cut out your quarter panels in preparation for flares or overfenders. This method will retain the structural integrity of the car and create some much needed clearance. This approach will work with most modern cars that are of a unibody construction. This looks like really good work!!!…. Is there anything else you can use other than welding??…. I don’t know any welders or trust any… is there something I can use other than welding or no?
Thanks! The best way is to weld, but you could also get away with folding those tabs over, drilling and riveting them back to the body. There are also strong panel adhesives you could use to go over all that and seal things up.

You seem to be educated on metal fabrication, I've had this same thought on same year Stang, affordable and fun so you can run the piss out of them and if a ditch, tree or gaurdrail folds it up, score another one, maybe build some one off quarter vents to replace glass and tie that aggressive look further around. Just a thought.

nope no oil cooler, what you see in the front is an intercooler for the turbo. I'm just running a single 70mm turbo on about 8psi. It made 512/439 on 10psi but closer to 450/450 now. Thanks!

I don't have it nailed down yet but I think I'm getting close to deciding my exact approach to the flares.
Nice job. For even better protection, you should try etching primer instead of regular primer.
Thanks! Yeah it's funny I did have some of that but used some RustOleum Proffesional primer. I've had good success with their professional line of products, especially the high performance enamel.
I'm sure you already know but s197 mustangs naturally can't go super low in the rear because of the rear axle hitting the bump stops. do you plan to modify the chassis to go even lower in the rear? I know some mustang guys notch out where the axle hits the underside of the car but it'd be really cool to see a video on how it's done
Well I actually did trim the bumpstops, as advised by airlift, during the install. And I have now reinstalled the wheels and aired it out and I got it much lower than before so I think it will be enough for what I want.
@@Kordare Gotcha. Maybe I gotta cut more off my bumpstops then. Car has wayyy too much rake when I slam it. Lol cool build!

Curious what rear fender you chose because you said you didn't like aftermarket fender flares in one of your videos.
You are correct and to be honest I'm not 100% decided what flares I'm going with yet

@@Kordare if you've never been there its amazing. Its huge, great people, and better cars. I've been going for over 10 years now. I'll have my brothers 2015 mustang and either my 93 fox or my 18 ST. Maybe both. Just depends if I get my engine back together in time.

Edit: wow that didn't turn out completely remorselessly horrible the way I thought it would! Did one tube of filler suffice? It's like when Jesus stretched out that wine for everybody that one time.
Haha yeah one tube was plenty! I was happy with the finished product, could almost add some bondo and rock it like this 😂😂.
There are better ways of doing this imo. Relief cuts aren't needed nor is seam sealer/metal filler. But with the tools you have you made it work pretty damn well!
Oh yeah there are definitely other ways of doing it but yeah I have pretty limited tools so this is a pretty simple approach.
He’s probably talking about fabricating a new metal piece to fit there and weld it, but this way works well and is easier.
Clearly you need the correct off set rim so the fender isn’t sitting on the tire

Gotta say it, not the right way to do it IMO. The right way would be to tig weld the inner skin and outer skin. Then tig the gaps in the slats. Grind back to smooth. Paint the underside with petroleum based underseal. Prime, 2K rattlecan and topcoat. Just my opinion as someone whose done plenty of this sort of work in the past. Respect for doing it but more attention to detail will help out in future
Hahahha okay yeah if you wanna go that crazy sure that would be better... definitely not worth it on a salvage mustang. I actually started out with my tig but it was just taking way too long and I didnt see much point.

your slits your welds will still rust because you did not use weld through primer before welding
Yeah there is still a chance but this car doesn't see the rain anyway so it's not very risky
@@Kordare It doesn't have to rain to get rust forming in metal all you need is humidity in the air, condensation and time.

Wouldn't call this "The Right Way" considering you didn't bother sanding and smoothing anything. It's rough as Hell lol. But, given you're going to mount over fenders, I guess that's not such a bad thing. I am kind of anal about bodywork, so please don't take it personally.
Hahah well yeah the whole point of this is to mount something over top of it. No attempt to make this look cosmetic.
