There is no extra time in college because there isn't a running clock. The clock is stopped on injuries, time wasting or just ball movement not related to the game. If the game is tied at the end of regulation then the college game goes to 2 10 min overtimes. If a goal is scored (Golden Goal) the game is over, basically becomes sudden death. If no one scores in 2 OT periods then it goes to PKs. In the regular season games end in a tie, in conference tournaments and the NCAA where there has to be a winner it goes to PKs.

H was one of 3 finalist for the Marshall job in 2017 along with Ryan Swan (Drewy DII HC) and Chris Grassie (University of Charleston (DII) HC), 4 days after Grassie was hired at Marshall, NIU hired Swan. Records since then are: Ryan Swan (23-48-4, 4 losing seasons, no NCAAs), Andy Fleming (28-28-11, 2 losing seasons, no NCAAs) Chris Grassie (46-24-11, 2 losing seasons. 30-5-6 last 2 years, 2 NCAAs, 1 Sweet 16, 1 College Cup National Championship.), Fleming didn't get the job and you can tell he resented it. Wonder how they will dismiss The Herd in the fall when they come in with a star on their crest, the reigning and defending National Champs.
I hate to say it but the hesitation by the Indiana keeper and not going to wreck lee towards the man to put pressure on him and the hesitation of half a second cost him to not be able to block the shot if you would have been a little bit more proactive in going towards the bald man I think you would have blocked the shot
There's no hesitation, he's letting his defenders try to do their job. He can't go rushing off his line when there are defenders closing on the shooter; and he actually made a good save. It was just unfortunate for him it came back off the bar and right to a Marshall player. There is plenty of blame to go around here but the keeper deserve very little of it.
the keeper cojld have caught the initial shot but the fact he didn't is understandable, but then the second save attempt if he just dove sideways rather than forward he would've had a better chance of savig it
Indiana played Marshall the same way they played Pitt. They give up the possession game to score on the counter attack. They set back and waited for the mistake Marshall would make, that never come. They had only 2 good chances, the ball that went off the post and the corner header that went wide. After their 1st 6 shots on goal in the 1st 32 mins they only had 1 shot in the next 66 mins of the rest of the 1st half, 2nd half and OT. None after the 56:32 mark of the 2nd half. Shots on Goal: Indiana 7, 1 on goal, Marshall 17, 8 on goal. Had their GKer not been elite Indiana would have lost by at least 3 in regulation.

The combination of defense and pace won Marshall the national championship! It was their key to success, but in that NCAA tournament they took it to an even higher driven level
That’s not Lady Luck you foolish broadcaster. Indiana got peppered with shots and got beat. For that Indiana player that claimed it was a lucky goal, same goes to you...
Indiana didn't do to bad with a 32 man roster of players mostly from Ind, Ill, and OH with 1 player from Holland vs Marshalls 47 man roster of which 4 were from WVA, more than half from overseas with 1 American starter. Time to get rid of the MLS draft.
Every last Indiana player belonged to a high end soccer club and 13 have already been assigned to MLS Academy's. So it wasn't like poor lil Jimmy just came from HS to play for Indiana. Only 1 school could get MLS Academy players and it wasn't Marshall. Maybe with a National Title in Coach Grassie's back pocket now that will change.
@@Arnabit Explain to me how exactly it "doesn't blend in well"? North America says "overtime" for a variety of sports to refer to what the rest of the world would call "extra time". The exception here is basketball, where it's called "overtime" worldwide. What's the problem?
you don’t understand the concept of extra time in tournament football. In NA tournament sports they play “over” a regulation time. like NFL playoffs play another quarter (15min) at OT, and NHL playoffs another period (20min) at OT. Football doesn’t play another 45min, instead 2x15min halves. Term in basketball is since they have unlimited numbers of OT until the game ends with a winner, that is why the rest of the world calls it OT not extra time. But since college soccer operates the game like no other in other domestic or international football like countdown clock and 10min ‘OT’ after regulation… I think it makes sense for Americans to use the term like other NA sports.
Coach Grassie just signed a 5-year extension contract with Marshall on Friday. He will be one of the highest-paid collegiate soccer coaches in the country.
@@wade6346 In a playoff scenario the game can't be allowed to be a draw so they have to come up with a rule to end the game somehow. This is way more legit than it ending in penalty kicks though I agree that it would be preferable for it to end in regulation so that we aren't forced into a golden goal scenario. But I really don't see any better ideas for OT rules, they already played 2 whole 45 minute halves and nobody scored. The game has be forced to end somehow.
There is no extra time in college. They don't keep a running clock through injries, time wasting and other things, The clock is stopped for those things.

They done good
Golden goal still exists and the clock is running backwards.
timo werner would miss that shot
timo werner would be shocked at that missed open net corner header in regulation missed by indiana

GOOOOO HERD !!!!!!!!
i dont think it was offside, but all soccer leagues should use VAR
So is this the Leicester City story of college soccer?
Love an underdog win!
the keeper cojld have caught the initial shot but the fact he didn't is understandable, but then the second save attempt if he just dove sideways rather than forward he would've had a better chance of savig it
It’s not easy to catch a ball flying that hard at you.

I thinks Indiana is cursed. Every time they went to the final they always lost.
Newcastle should be looking for a new manager lol
You can't call it luck when your playing on your heels all game long Indiana.
@@Lufsixq don't insult my intelligence everyone knows Indiana was playing the counter game. Don't insult the Marshall team by acting like it was luck that Indiana lost fug that. Indiana may be a power house soccer college but not that day smh not you just the media 🙄
When your involved in a low scoring match, defense is paramount! And obviously you don't pitch three consecutive NCAA tournament shutouts against the most quality of competition without it! Marshall's defense and reaction to cutting off passing lanes we're suffocating along with the fact that the Herd forced their opponents to play their pace and way, so your right RJ! The combination of defense and pace won Marshall the national championship! It was their key to success, but in that NCAA tournament they took it to an even higher driven level
I’ve got a heard on!
That’s not Lady Luck you foolish broadcaster. Indiana got peppered with shots and got beat. For that Indiana player that claimed it was a lucky goal, same goes to you...
Sudden death? Wtf? Overtime?
NCAA Rules are different, and they have a Golden Goal rule for overtime
People sleep on WV soccer ⚽️ finally putting it on the soccer map in amerikkka
Lol
Coulda said it w/o the triple k lmao but lets go WV
my dad was at tat game
LETSS GOOOOOO
who says "overtime (OT)" in association football? seriously
Who fucking cares? They can put whatever spin on it they want.
Who cares? It's the same thing. You think that's the only regional/dialectal difference in terminology in the world?
@@jaredpap8874 it's not a regional difference. you're using a terminology from another sport for football which doesn't blend in well.
And just like that - Covid disappeared forever
Can the Marshall coach please go home to Newcastle and take over from Steve Bruce?
I certainly hope not.
Coach Grassie just signed a 5-year extension contract with Marshall on Friday. He will be one of the highest-paid collegiate soccer coaches in the country.
@@colleenjohnson3270 good for him and Marshall, yoh do realize I was joking???
talk abt a cinderella
Don't let Coach Grassie hear that. He had been saying since the beginning of the season that he had the best team in the nation. Guess he was right.
The keeper could have saved that if he didn’t watch it for a few seconds
Indiana players watching
Bruh why does the game end when they score? These rules are sus just play the game like everyone else
It’s golden goal
Because it was overtime. That's the rules, first to score in OT wins.
@@AxelAlexK yes I know and its stupid lol, just it being called over time is dumb
@@AxelAlexK just do what literally every pro league does lmao
You got to love college soccer...nobody able to win on regular time😂😂
imma win one
these lot dont even say extra time right
There is no extra time in college. They don't keep a running clock through injries, time wasting and other things, The clock is stopped for those things.
