Hey Elliot, pro watchmaker here with a tip. When you're screwing the crown on and off and holding the stem with tweezers, hold the stem as close to the crown as you can. I saw you holding the stem by the square end, and this is a really easy way to break the end of the stem off. Ask me how I know, I've done it a couple times. Also instead of tweezers, get yourself a good set of pin vices, these hold the stem even more securely for trimming and for fitting the crown. Seeing how you were whipping the hands around I can see how the first crown stem got broken. Take a little more care in time with setting the hands so you don't jostle the movement and break anything in the future 🙂 And you don't have to wonder, tapping the movement on the table is definitely not watchmaker approved. Good way to bend some pivots. I do like watching your watch builds, keep up the good work and I hope that my tips help.
I appreciate that your og viewers are looking for gaming tech but I cant help but feel like we are seeing you explore an awesome tangent that will seem like a great decision a few years from now. Wishing you all the luck with the channel!
@@repomanzillahe should just create a separate channel. I like watches a lot so I watch watch related channels, I don't watch donut media for watch related content, I watch that for cars. Better to keep them separate imo.
@@sdaafasfadthis is his separate channel lmao. And it’s not a gameboy channel or a watch channel. It’s an Elliot Coll channel and it’s still tech/build content. Do TH-cam lets players make a different channel for every game they play? Or do they just have one video game channel?
I've never been interested in watches, but the idea of building your own is awakening the tinkerer in me. Really cool content Elliot this is thoroughly enjoyable
Love your watch builds. Please continue to produce these because I really love it. Perhaps you can also collaborate with local artisans to make custom watch dials, markers, hands, or even metal plating, hand engravings. Much love from Malaysia.
It's also easy to sandblast the case for a nice "titanium" effect. Either pop off the bezel/glass or just tape them up good with heat resistant or duct tape and spray away.
Picked up a AMZWATCH's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops!MAMACOO watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
Gorgeous watch, I'm ordering some parts next week to give it a try. Your channel covers 2 of my favorite hyperfixations: retro game consoles and watches lol love the duality even if the algorithm doesn't 🤘
Just finished your meteorite watch. I was really inspired by your video- thank you. I will say that the second hand was a nightmare, and my version was two seconds away from being a two handed watch only but the last attempt worked out. Looking forward to trying another watch, after my blood pressure comes down (from that second hand).
Hi Elliot, as a fellow hobbyist I enjoy watching your journey into watchmaking and horology. My two cents though, that crown doesn't look flush when screwed in - maybe it's the camera angle - but I think the stem might be a tad long and when pushing the crown in and tightening to the tube, the crown seems to have some give. I would recommend you invest in a pin vise to hold the stem for all your stem work- cutting, sanding, attaching to the crown, applying Loctite, etc. A pin vise is a lot more sturdy than pliers and the chances of damaging the stem are significantly less when using the pin vise. Just make sure to clamp down on the stem with the pin vise on the cylindrical part of the stem. Cheers!
I was just about to say something related. You should put the stem in and rotate the movement so it's centred on the hole, rather than eyeball it without the stem. Also, put the crown on before inserting the stem, will be easier at the measuring step.
Absolutely stunning. What a beautiful job, I have built a few of my own as well and you make installing the hands look SO easy. I have wrestled, struggled with and bent the hands before, they are so tiny and fiddly. Wear it well, keep up the good work. Cheers mate.
Just a little tip, seconds hand isn't connected to a calendar pusher, so you don't need to align it perfectly with minutes and hours hands, you can do it later when setting the time with the crown.
The dial pattern/style is meant to look like meteorite striations. I stumbled across your channel because I just bought all the stuff to build my own watch and a lot of what I got is the same as what you got here, with the exception of the case and strap (I got a Rolex explorer 2 style case and oyster bracelet). Great video!
Elliot, good job man, that is absolutely banging, keep on making these cool custom watches, I am going to soon once I get a chance, thanks for a great content mate.
Love it when you do watches so much mate! I have since tried my own hand at it......messed up the hands 🤣 no bother I've ordered more and I'll give it another go 😁 you have given me a new hobby and I love it, so thank you!
Please don't stop posting these vids Elliot! I mean you enjoying making these vids so why stop! And we watch enthusiasts we love it so heck ha keep up the content! You make this watch amazing beauty ❤️
It sounds scary to do but I actually use a little hammer, in conjunction with the hand setting pusher to hammer down the hands. It applies far less pressure on the overall system to just barely tap the hands down. I used to push and wiggle and squirm them into place but the tapping is so much easier. I have found that on most painted hands I have to use a broach to clean the paint out of the holes to get them seated.
To me, the dial looks as if you've scribbled/sketched pencil lead /graphite on a piece of paper or card and then rubbing/erasing some of the lines out to get that effect 👍🏻 it looks nice 🙂
Another great build as per usual! I'd love to see you build a golden, oldschool style kind of watch. Almost like Cartier Tank-esque if you catch my drift :)
Thanks for the video! Very inspiring! Btw i 3d printed movement holder. My custom watch is Kagawana dial, gmt hands, yatch master case and white silicone oysterflex. Breathtaking piece :)
Hey Elliot! Just a recommendation! Do a watch using the NH72 movement, it’s gorgeous and exposed and shows all of the intricacies of the movement from the front and back of the movement! And then to show it off get a skeletonized dial, and a case with a clear back. I just ordered the parts to make this type of watch myself and can’t wait for them to arrive!
When are you posting on the main channel ? But seeing you make these watches and your happy most of the time shows me you love this hobby as well 💥🔥 I’ll wait patiently til you upload more gameboy videos
I agree that watch looks stunning and I love your enthusiasm. After watching one of your earlier videos I have built my own Black Bay homage and it looks great. Btw rather than finger cots I use those nitrile latex free gloves which don't cut the circulation off to the fingers 😂
You should come up with your own custom logo to put on these dials. There are companies that will make them for you. A logo would set these off. The blank space where a logo would normally be is too eye catching lol
I like whatever Elliot uploads. He is customizing and/or restoring whatever he gets his hands on. By the way, is there a real watch expert here? I have bought a black steel wristband years ago, and I don't want to replace it just because the paint came off. I spray paint cars and bike frames with professional equipment. Is it worth a try? Or will the paint fall off?
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the amzwatch has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
absolutely love this hobby after trying it from your videos. it is so much fun and so interesting. i think i will soon try and machine my own bracelets and cases.
Hear me out, Elliot: a Game Boy watch. I don't know whether that means a watch (probably a smartwatch, but the idea is flexible) that simply looks like a Game Boy or one of those miniature emulator keyring dealies like one of those that you've featured on The Retro Future in the past restyled as a watch or something, but the synergy sounds too good to pass up! If you make it a series, you could have one or two videos dedicated to the design and 3D printing prototyping phase of the thing and another to the actual construction of the thing.
Filing the end of the stem should be done before testing the crown because once you snip it, you create burr and filing the sharp burr will prevent tearing the threads inside the crown which you already screwed it in :). Great work though, small mistakes here and there but overall fantastic job.
Nice build. To put on the seconds hand on the movement, you better let run the movement. In that case you know the seconds hand is on the pivot before you press it all the way down...
Elliot, Have you seen some of the builds for the Moonswatch with metal cases? Maybe an interesting one for your next project. Would love to see that build.
For anyone curious, the case is a homage on the Unimatic U2. The case appears to be the one made by/for San Martin, so If you want a watch like this (minus the meteorite texture) you can pick up the assembled San Martin watch from Aliexpress.
I've been watching your videos since 2022! Mostly Nintendo mods, but I love your recent watchmaking videos too. Will you make a playlist to make your watchmaking content easier to find?
For the seconds hand, take an old used up Bic biro and snip the writey end off, rinse out the old ink and use that to assist placing seconds hands, also very good for manipulating bent hands back into shape, for seconds hand work just put the tube end so its sticking out and move the whole ink tube to where you want the hand and then strike with your pusher and no drama or crisis as I get a good fit 10 out of 10 times.

Outstanding video.I have to go with the MAMACOO, especially with that green dial as my favorite
Great video man! You do this in a way that makes the building look challenging, real, and doable by anyone.
I'm genuinely impressed with how close amzwatch were able to replicate every aspect of this very very goofy looking classic watch.
