Do they even try in US? In UK they wouldn't even alert themselves until they had 2-3 cars behind you, then if you're in a high performance car, helicopter usually on top within 10-15 minutes.
they do try but a normal stop would be one cop lights you up first, then if you run they will radio other cops. if they run the plate and car comes back stolen or if they know your car from previous encounters where you got away, then they will try to get multiple cops in position to do a felony stop on your car. i’ve never seen a helicopter being used in NY, but they use them here in LA

A license plate does not get people in jail. Being positively identified as the driver gets them in jail. A car cannot be charged with a crime, or given a citation, but a person can. Obviously, a license plate points you to a registered owner, but you can't just throw someone in jail because their roommate took their car while they were asleep and cut up in it.
