I stopped listening to pop music for the last 20 years or so. I've heard of most of the artists, but don't know most of the songs, except for a few massive hits. But after watching many reaction videos over the last couple of years, this video has confirmed to me, at least, that people have the strongest opinions about the music they grew up with, especially if it was recent. They are more likely to dislike one or more genres of music from that time period, and they seem to be more influenced by their peers, social media, etc., than other music. After watching so many positive reactions to music that I used to dislike, even if I never gave it much of a chance, I realize that because of the memories it evokes at the very least, and being able to see other people enjoy the music for what it is, free of prejudice, others' opinions, and resistance to change, I find I actually like the music I thought I hated, and renew enjoyment of the music I didn't. So thanks to all the reactors who view old music with fresh eyes, so I can too.
This video helped me pinpoint exactly where I became old in terms of keeping up with pop music (I just turned 30 so I’m not “old”, but I’m clearly not keeping up with the times lol) Virtually everything through 2015 was the same as the 00s video where I recognized almost every song and like most of them. Then in 2016 I start being like “I’ve never heard that song in my life” or “is THAT who sings that?” for at least 60% of them.
Ain't NO way this guy said this music was all bad, then proceeded to sing along to all the Drake songs, the worst artist with the worst songs on the entire list.

Interesting how you liked the funkiness in the late 80’s songs, some of which wouldn’t really be classified as funk, and then not like Bruno Mars funk inspired songs
Katy Perry also dominated the 2010's. "Shallow" is from the film "A Star Is Born" in which Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper do star in. Bradley Cooper is a big hollywood actor. Besides "A Star Is Born" Cooper has starred in the "Hangover" film series, "American Sniper" , "American Hustle" and had smaller roles in films such as "Wedding Crashers".
No Tears Left To Cry was her single after her concert was attacked... Also That's What I Like is one of Bruno's better songs. Overall the 2010s, especially the latter half was sooo "blah" and boring that Post Malone's singles are actually refreshing considering the musical landscape despite his sheep-like vocals. Dua's songs were a breath of fresh air too. Havana aged well. Initially I disliked Cheerleader a bit when it first came out, but it's definitely a song I like now.
@@TheNraveles agreed was most of the most popular music of that decade bad, probably, but it was fun and catchy and care free honestly I kinda miss the 2010s
I liked more of these than I expected to. I can't say actively seek them out to listen to. It is more like I heard them at clubs, liked them, and then for some reason forgot I had heard them. I wonder why. Generally though I agree, music has gotten very stale. The reason for it I heard is that music companies use algorithms to determine which songs will be profitable. Since new sounds get weeded out by the algorithms, nothing new makes it. I still think a deep dive into often obscure music from the '60's and '70's provides the most variety of rock. The 90's may have had more genre popular at once though.
Yeah, you are right....the music has become all Pop, whether a bit of country pop, hip hop pop, rock pop...it is sad. The interesting part is the 90's was wild, Ska, Big Band, Alternative, Nu-Metal, Rap, Hip-Hop, Rock and more was all just as popular as each other....I miss the diversity for sure.
5:42 As far as I can tell, Miley Cyrus was following her dad's career path but with more pop than country. He was a big sex symbol for that genre in his time and I think she (they?) thought it would be good for her career.
The decline of the Millennial and the rise of Gen Z, so now we all sound like our parents complaining about today's music. What I wouldn't do for some T-Pain auto-tune in my life right now 🤣But honestly music got REALLY LAZY the second half of 2010's, still trying to target towards my generation but we were heading into our 30's and having more "adult" lives so we didn't need the fast paced club music anymore. I see 2020 as the year the reset button was hit for music and every genre changed again.
The 2010’s era is just a fun era of music. It wasn’t serious and wasn’t overly analytical, it was just feel good happy music that made you vibe. I hate when people get way too extra about it and wanna be “omg this needs to be deep and lyrical” when some music just has fun and is meant for that.
It's not that it's not deep or lyrical it's that it's all just the same cookie cutter bullshit with zero musicianship or originality and zero complexity but music doesn't necessarily need to be dream theater levels of complex but most modern pop has none to speak of. But really all I'm trying to say is if this video was based on quality not many of these songs would have made it in the video
@@blacksabs5461 It’s crazy because I’ll see pop music always getting criticized for sounding the same when, to me, metal music all sounds the same. I mean, any genre can sound the same but for some reason that’s always the argument brought up whenever it’s “basic” pop music
@@riggamorrischan I agree that a lot of music can sound the same especially in popular music but there is a difference between sounding similar and being algorithmic. and calling pop music basic would be telling the truth for 90% of the time most of the time it sticks to 4/4 timing and doesn't usually use more than four of five chords which is usually fine but if your keeping it simple you need to make it interesting which in my opinion it usually doesn't. And lastly I want you to listen to blackwater park by opeth trust me you've never heard anything like it and if it's too heavy for you listen to in my time of need by the same band :)
@@blacksabs5461 who tf cares if there isn’t any musicianship or originality? If there’s music solely made to just have fun and vibe, that’s all that matters. Just chill and have fun. I think these lists are very strange! I've listened to six decades worth, day to day. Not many on these lists are music I even noted. No Frankie goes to Hollywood, no Muse, no Radiohead, no stereophonics, little RHCP, little Queen! No Years and years. So many others barely mentioned or not noted at all!
Music is subjective so you’re free to like whatever you like, but it kills me to see luka have such strong opinions for songs I think are hot garbage makes me laugh 😂
the thing I think is noticeable is not so much the type of music but the themes are very similar. In the previous decades there was a wider diversity of themes and subject matter including sci-fi themed songs, fantasy themed songs, there were also a lot of music which was more politically motivated. There were of cause absolute flops and weird things but everything had a little try. However its fair to say the more interesting music was and is still being made it just isnt up on the surface, to give an example Rodger Waters is still touring and making material, Porcupine tree are still creating as are artists like Sting and radiohead but its not going out into the mass marketplace.
I like maybe a dozen of them, but I think the videos and marketing have taken over from AM radio stations, so there are lower expectations and a lot of loud noisy bands that don't need to build on popular instrumentals and romance.
I honestly didn't know most of these songs. Today's music is just not that good, in my opinion. It all sounded the same, nothing really stood out as a great song. The 80s and 90s were the best reaction you've done so far, for me at least
Personally I think music peaked in the 80's, went downhill in the 90's, started to get a little better in the 2000's with Keane, Jason Mraz, and Michael Buble but not nearly as good as the 60's, 70's, and 80's, and 2010 until current I mostly lost interest. Still listened to Maroon 5 on the radio but I was pretty meh on most of the new songs. Either way it doesn't matter to me. I've mostly been listening to 70's and 80's music since I was in my 30's and I'm 45 now. I love Maroon 5. Great group. One of the few songs I loved in this video. Most of these songs are pretty meh for me what the kids call mid nowadays. Gangnam style was fun when it came out but I wouldn't go back and listen to it. Happy and Sugar are good. I have no interest in rap or hard rock so I'm good. To me hard rock is yelling so I'm not interested. Edit: I'm okay with Justin Timberlake as well. I liked NSYNC music in the 2000's. Same with Coldplay so I liked "Something just like this" too. Blinding Lights is very good as well.
I realized that I stopped listening to pop on an off about 2009, and I did miss much. 😂 I miss my 90s Edit: But I like rap (and I sound old), but I hate what they've done to it.
The trajectory over time in this video is almost an uninterrupted downward arrow. The songs started out okay (2012), and just got progressively worse. Yes I think this is a bad era for music. History will not be kind.
This video just shows me I missed nothing by focusing on listening to 70s - 90s music during the 2010s, seems I just bypassed a lot of trash. Sia is the only singer on that list I would actually listen to, the rest can all stay on their trash pile.
Thank you. Hearing you say that it all sounds the same makes me feel a little less like an old man. 😂

usually i defend music from the 2010s till now since i despise the people who just hate on anything that isn't older music but, yeah, lotta popular mainstream music has a really similar and uncreative sound. i just gotta remember that i listen to a lot of indie, rap, metal and hyperpop (and lots of foreign music as well) so what i listen to is vastly different to what's popular
The 2010-20s have the best rap songs that just don’t get played on billboard and radio stations
@@christophermorgan9199every genre continues to have great songs they just aren't played on radio or promoted mainstream
ngl kinda funny how he was going on at the start about not really listening to pop but then proceeds to sing along to the pop songs
One man's pop is another man's flop
I feel like we're watching you get old right in front of our eyes. Peters: The music today sucks. You kids get of my lawn!
Interesting how you liked the funkiness in the late 80’s songs, some of which wouldn’t really be classified as funk, and then not like Bruno Mars funk inspired songs
Now I know that I started getting old in 2017! 😅
I AGREE WITH THE THUMBNAIL
It’s just an era of fun music honestly though. Is it amazing? No. But damn was it a LOT of fun.
If you were born in 2001, there’s no way you started high school in 2012 and graduated in 2017
In the uk their school system is different
@@Liverpoollassie I don’t it is. You still don’t start highschool at 11 and graduate at 16
@@michaeltnk1135 they start secondary school at 12 which is year 7 and they finish at 16 which is year 11 and maybe he has a late birthday
Your Italian pronunciation of Avicii 😆
As mid as I think Bruno Mars is, he's incredibly popular apparently. It's gotta be middle aged moms listening to him dancing around their living room.
middle-aged moms ruining for all of us musically, eh?
Well he is currently the most listened to artist in the world, with the top 2 songs globally. That just shows his broad appeal
2021 2022 december be like ; iiiiiii dont want a lotttttt for christmas
Nah I'm 17 and like Nirvana and Country songs
Ok professor
Rap took over on the 90s
All I remember from the nineties is rock lol, the late nineties at least.
You gonna react to the 60's and the decades before that?
Oh no not T-Pain that is True Pain right there.
@@blacksabs5461 I’ll check it out! I mean, I do enjoy poppy who kinda infuses pop and metal/rock, so I’m open to some heavy and experimental stuff
@@blacksabs5461 who tf cares if there isn’t any musicianship or originality? If there’s music solely made to just have fun and vibe, that’s all that matters. Just chill and have fun.
If you want music with originality and such, then go listen to that. The 2010’s had PLENTY of that but it wasn’t as mainstream because the 2010’s was PEAK party culture, PEAK club music, PEAK time to just stay up til 3 AM partying and not giving a fuck. You’re not gonna listen to shit like Bon Iver (my fave group) at a club at 2AM are you?
You've had to have seen Sia before. She was in Zero 7 and had an entire career before she got major and used those wigs to hide her face.
Pls react to Mixtape Medley with Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson | That’s My Jam
Music is subjective so you’re free to like whatever you like, but it kills me to see luka have such strong opinions for songs I think are hot garbage makes me laugh 😂
So I have watched most of these videos. Is this person saying that no song has been the most popular for 2 months in a row? Seems odd.
I'll stay with the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
Chandelier should have been here instead of that atrocity named Happy by Pharell. Including at Grammies
the thing I think is noticeable is not so much the type of music but the themes are very similar.
14:57 aside from the voice, Halsey samples the instrumental from God is a woman, an Ariana song, maybe that makes it feel even more similar
I also didn't know that Dynamite song was BTS, I was certain I hadn't ever heard any of their songs before.
Such a epic fall from the 80s
Shocked you didn't know so many especially late. A few were real wtf really how?!
It was decent up into ~2015, then everything just went to shit.
my brother you gotta go back to the 50s and 60s videos
6:36 yeah 2014 was where things go downhill
90s and 2000s were the best for me. And I'm an 80s baby 😆
From 2010 to 2012 is missing
Nah, I'm in my 40s and there's still good music out there, you just gotta work a little harder to find it I guess.
2015 is so accurate all the songs were popular in the exact months I remember then being
I’m less than a year from turning 50 and I just find the current music trends to be rubbish!
When I was little I hated wrecking ball because I thought the video was too inappropriate and gross. 😂
I honestly didn't know most of these songs. Today's music is just not that good, in my opinion. It all sounded the same, nothing really stood out as a great song. The 80s and 90s were the best reaction you've done so far, for me at least
Personally I think music peaked in the 80's, went downhill in the 90's, started to get a little better
in the 2000's with Keane, Jason Mraz, and Michael Buble but not nearly as good as the 60's, 70's, and 80's, and 2010 until current I mostly lost interest.
Most of these songs are pretty meh for me what the kids
call mid nowadays.
You gotta do a Nightwish reaction my man. That's some different music!
So happy to be a metal head. These songs suck so hard
same here!
I realized that I stopped listening to pop on an off about 2009, and I did miss much. 😂 I miss my 90s
Edit: But I like rap (and I sound old), but I hate what they've done to it.
I think the Lada Gaga & Bradley Cooper song was for the A Star Is Born movie.
I’m in my early 30s n don’t know too many of these songs. This era of music was pretty shitty. 💆🏽♀️💆🏽♀️
Baby Shark is the most played song.
Imagine not liking Bruno mars
🙋♂️
The trajectory over time in this video is almost an uninterrupted downward arrow. The songs started out okay (2012), and just got progressively worse.
Yes I think this is a bad era for music. History will not be kind.
Oh lord help me! I just can't...
I'm sure these lists are American charts.
I don't like rap but the box is the best by a mile
since 2015 mainstream music is going down bad, very few artists are good
Maybe 4 or 5 decent songs on that list, rest is diabolical
This video just shows me I missed nothing by focusing on listening to 70s - 90s music during the 2010s, seems I just bypassed a lot of trash. Sia is the only singer on that list I would actually listen to, the rest can all stay on their trash pile.
Damn bro your 16 I thought you were older.
