Although musical tastes are subjective, it's also a mistake to say that it's only a subjective and personal preference list.
They are important songs of their time that over the years have repeatedly appeared as great classics, supported by critics and the public. And they have become emblems or insignia.

Hurt was released in 1995. It was a Nine Inch Nails song. Johnny Cash covered it in 2002. He was an active artist from 1954-2003.
And because I’m sure it will come up lol Simon and Garfunkel’s Sound of Silence came out in 1964 and Disturbed’s cover came out in 2015.

It isn't so much about how well the songs have lasted, as how much they influenced music and their times. In that light the Beatles are monsters, not just because of how many records they sold, but because they changed music forever. I'll agree that the sound of The Beatles is pretty tired these days, played out (though most of their lyrics remain good poetry), but you can still make a strong case for most of their included songs in this list as highly influential.

    • @Cassxowary

"Bowie fans know/adore him, Beatles fans are pretty much the same. The rest of the population is right there with you" This is the most ignorant and incorrect statement I've seen in this comment section. Most people in the UK and US know a lot of Beatles songs even if they don't think they do. You and Thurston are in the minority, for sure.

    • @heidileigh7023
      @heidileigh7023 ปีที่แล้ว

I meant that if you know and love a ton of Bowie/Beatles pieces, you're probably a fan. If you don't know a lot, you're probably not a fan. And there (in my experience) is nearly always that linear separation of people. I say this as both a Bowie AND Beatles fan.

Although I love the song Yesterday, I'd have to put Bohemian Rhapsody as #1. The song Yesterday came to McCartney in a dream. He woke up knowing the tune and immediately rolled out of bed and started playing it on the piano next to his bed. The working title was "Scrambled Eggs". He took it to all of his friends asking if they had ever heard the tune, thinking he had subconsciously plagiarized it. Similarly, he had a dream about his mother, Mary, telling him to not worry and to just "Let It Be". Yesterday is the most covered song in history.

If you don't know Metallica One, you should definitely react to that, others get the most views in their channel because they react to the classic video.

So far there are so many I would never rank in the Top 100. Besides, 100 is far too little to encompass any song from any genre at any time in pop history. Needs to be narrowed down to a genre or decade or region.

This is some Joe Blow's list of his favorite songs, not based on sales or radio play, etc. You need to/should use a list curated by an authority, such as: Billboard's Top 100 Songs of All-Time.

Who compiled this list. Guess I need to refer to the original video to learn more.

Let's be clear, this list is someone's top 100 but is by no means a definitive list. A lot of good songs but definitely some questionable choices.

If you know any Metallica, it is probably Enter Sandman. Also when you get to Johnny Cash, you shouldn't start with Hurt, I don't want your intro to Cash to make you cry (also it is a cover). Better off with A Boy Named Sue, Folsom Prison Blues, or Ring of Fire.

Free Bird should have been at the top of the list. You cannot leave off the most requested song when bands are playing. Someone will shout Free bird to challenge the Band to perform it!

Few too many Beatles tracks on this list, didn’t need 50 of the top 100 songs to be Beatles

i like the songs they picked but some of them shouldnt have been there. I wonder what criteria they used to even choose these.

i wonder if this was someone's personal top 100 or if it was rolling stone magazines top 100? i agree that if you heard most of the songs chorus parts youd be like OOOH, ITS THAT SONG?!?! it seems like around half the bands on this list are british and to hear you say you dont know a good chunk of them saddens me and im an american

You need to listen to much more music .. I was born in 1952 and knew music going all the way back to music hall back in the 1800s and classical music going back hundreds of years … and we didn’t have internet and the amount of British artists you don’t know .. wow just wow

What was this list based on? Not sales, not air play. Was it someone's personal, subjective list? Good songs, but still you need to use some objective points if you're going to make a list like this, or say it's subjective.

Ok so whoever made this list is a super D rider for the Beetles. That's the thing though. Every one of these lists will be different for everyone. Johnny Cash the only country on here and he isn't really even traditional country. A top 100 songs of all time with no Garth Brooks???? No Celine Dion on here??? Only 1 Pink Floyd song??? This is a very personal list.
