"In the wake of Texas’ abortion ban, the state’s infant death rate increased and more died of birth defects, a study published Monday shows.
The analysis out of Johns Hopkins University is the latest research to find higher infant mortality rates in states with abortion restrictions.
The researchers looked at how many infants died before their first birthday after Texas adopted its abortion ban in September 2021. They compared infant deaths in Texas to those in 28 states - some also with restrictions. The researchers calculated that there were 216 more deaths in Texas than expected between March and December the next year."*

I‘m a doctor from Germany. One of my best friends from medical school married an American lady, and they moved to Texas about 20 years ago. He’s a pediatrician, specialized in neonatology. He quit his job now and is moving back to Germany with his family, because he can’t handle his job anymore. He says it’s heartbreaking to have so many new born babies with severe conditions, and he says it’s so frustrating to not being able to help.

Not only are parents forced to have a baby they know will die, but the baby will go through a lot of unpleasant and painful medical procedures, and the cost of caring for a medically fragile child for even a few days can quickly top $1million. This raises healthcare and insurance costs for all of us while putting an already grieving family in financial disaster.
It’s torture on these newborns to suffer till they die is insane! It’s as if they hate babies!! They just want them born! Whatever happens after birth is not their problem!

I have an idea that might reverse this policy. If a fetus is now a person at conception and you know your child won't make it get an insurance policy for the fetus and collect at death. Corporations will hate this then the lawmakers will change the policy.

As a nurse I can’t tell u how often an abnormality is detected in a fetus where there are twin or triplets and the abnormal fetus is drain the food and making the other infants unstable so aborting that fetus to be able to give birth to save the other fetuses and have a chance at saving the other fetuses, so the fetus is forced to be born under weight with more of a chance of abnormalities like blindness or deaf, cerebral palsy and on and on

a) there is no such thing as rape but only excuses by immoral women, and the 'rapist' is the real victim.

When the mother dies, who is responsible for that death, and should they be prosecuted for murder? Or at the very least, extreme disregard for human life? The answer is: yes - all the politicians who created the situation that lead to the mother losing her life should face the legal repercussions of their stupidity. The whole law of criminalizing the termination of pregnancies is evil. A woman should be able to determine if she wants a child to be born to term. Care of any child is not guaranteed. The lawmakers, in this instance, choose to punish the mother and child. Ultimately care and well-being of the child or the mother is not a factor!

There is so many problems with not aborting at all. How many unwanted pregnancies end up in an unloving harmful home most of them. What happens after that they never learn end up on the streets on their own some homeless most doing some form of drugs.
When I was in law school, we actually read a study about that correlation between the advent of choice with a significant decrease in criminal activity from theft to murder 13-18 years later. Wonder why. I guess that’s what we’re headed back to.

Idaho's last OB-GYN & maternity ward shuttered months ago. There's no prenatal or post natal care for mothers or children now in the state. Midwives have gone underground.

A fourth had to cease labor and delivery services because no one dares to take the job. I am pretty sure there are more than that in Idaho. Still a really really bad situation though. There are conditions where the fetus can die and the mother can go into septic shock, and possibly die. Refusing to do an abortion when the baby won't survive birth, and may die in utero, increases the likely hood of this happening.
While we think of childbirth as natural and common and easy, it isn't always. Growning and bearing a child brings many health risks, including death. By forcing women to carry and deliver babies that will not survive, you are forcing her to also taken needless medical risks.
The Problems is, this is financially crippling. Now, you have to have a funeral for a baby, you knew was not going to live! also delivery of the baby, to die a month or two later and have a funeral you are now $20k in debt.
Its not about life, its about control

It's called legislation. Similar to republican efforts with heartbeat bills, criminalizing intrastate abortion traffic etc, they could for instance (a) legislate a right for women to receive an abortion during a certain time period, grant immunities to doctors who perform abortions (Especially for life and health of mother), prohibit intrastate trafficking laws, etc - all very much within the Commerce Clause and General Welfare Doctrines of Article I power.
All that overturning Roe did was hold there is no CONSTITUTIONAL right under the due process clause to protect women's bodily autonomy. That in no way limits Congress's plenary authority to afford protections by statute.

For those of you who are a part of the pro-life movement, have you considered joining the quality-of-life movement?
I mean, I’m more pro life than pro choice, but I’ve always supported things like maternity leave, and my views tend to lean more liberal overall. Things that concern me with current red states is people getting charged when they have miscarriages or getting denied care when their health is at risk. That’s obviously insane and needs to be stopped.
However, the stuff mentioned here, with denied abortion in cases of deformities, seems a bit strange to me. They act like deaths and grief from the loss of those lives went up, but parents that experience miscarriage also grieve, and their child still dies. The outcome isn’t different just because you end the child’s life in the womb rather than letting them live and seeing if they can defy the odds and make it. If you think about it, the overall lives surviving should go up in these cases because there are always people that beat the odds, no matter what doctors say. Thus, the deaths are only larger because they didn’t include fetal deaths in their count.

I'm a Democrat from Central Texas & when I was a kid I had a relative who gave birth in the 6th month, but sadly the child didn't live long because their organs weren't fully developed. My relative later found out that she had a blood condition that she was prescribed medication for & was able to have another child. Ever since then before I even knew what Roe V. Wade was my thoughts on being "pro-life" vs. "pro-choice" have always been abortion is fine in the 1st & 2nd trimesters since it's likely the child can't survive outside the womb on their own, but in the 3rd trimester it depends on if the birth will effect the life of the mother.
What if I feel threated by my fetus and fear for my life. Self defense, stand your ground. 🤦

I had a baby in the uterus but after 6 weeks a baby was found in my tube after I pleaded with the drs that something was wrong. I almost died.
Now I would have died bcs they didn’t want to abort the baby in my uterus.

What I’m worried about is same criminals set underground abortion facilities charging desperate women a lot of money to get an abortion done in a dirty room with dirty tools and the woman in question then runs the risk of getting a serious infection and becomes sterile because of it. This whole situation is disgusting and wrong on so many levels.
The "cardiac activity" is just the pregnant woman's heartbeat beating blood through the fetus. It's not a fetus heartbeat.

If a state is going to have these “pro-life” laws, they need to pay for the healthcare of the woman and her child. Oh, and the family should also have affordable housing, healthy food, and affordable child care.

I might be misremembering, but I seem to recall this "heartbeat" law not actually requiring the fetus to have a heart, their heartbeat can be pulses that piggyback off of _your_ heartbeat.
The 6 week heartbeat is merely the fluttering of cells, the heart if formed until the 10th week, and continues to develop throughout pregnancy and isn't fully formed until after birth.

There are documentation of women being pregnant for years with the dead fetus being calcified ( turned to stone like) .
In my current state of SC, I was not allowed to see anyone about my pregnancy prior to 8 weeks, even though I had a history of blood clots at 5 weeks with my first pregnancy. The earliest appoinment I had been able to get with primary care at that point was months in the future. I literally asked if the only way I could be put on blood thinners was for me to wait until I got a blood clot and potentially have a pulmonary embolism. The nurse reluctantly said, "Yes". Luckily, I was able to contact my ob-gyn from the state I had just moved from and was able to get the blood thinners I needed without being seen. But that whole scenario was wild. No clinic or hospital I called was willing to see me prior to 8 weeks...despite the threat of thrombosis. I even offered to show them my medical records to prove I wasn't just trying to get an abortion

@mimiruss8444 They did not ask for my insurance; otherwise, I would have told them that I would pay out of pocket. My husband and I had the means to do so. All they said was that in the state of SC, they don't do ultrasounds until 8 weeks...and that's the only time I could see a doctor. I wouldn't be able to see a doctor prior to an ultrasound

PS. Someone said something about going to an ultrasound place. *shrugs* I'm only relaying what each place told me. I didn't need an ultrasound. I needed a medical professional who could prescribe me blood thinners. I could be mistaken, but I don't think imaging places provide actual medical treatment, so I don't think they would be able to prescribe me blood thinners. Because the condition was linked to pregnancy, according to what each place told me, a prescribing medical professional needed to confirm with an ultrasound that I was pregnant before prescribing me anything. The hospitals and clinics I reached out to were also not connected to each other. If it's not state law, I think these places made this their policy because of SC law
