I served in that station for nearly eighty years. I saw the composition of the High Twelve change over that span as death and rivalry took its toll. Some of those lords were vicious, many of them narcissists. Two were positively psychotic, and I remain convinced that I am dedicating this vote to the 12 hour Heresy video!
One more concussion and Koda is going to show up with a big metal plate on his head and an oddly fanatical obsession with two brutally cunning deities.
Rome had this period known as "the five good emperors" at some point, so i think the max of semi competent benevolent dictators they got had to have been 5.
Important to note that none of them were biologically related. They were all adoptive father and sons. Then Marcus Aurelius left it all to his biological son Commodus. The reason it stopped at five good emperors.
Also important to remember that not one of them was actually benevolent. Rome was a vile empire. It's just been massaged by historians who were morally aligned with it. Never forget that they owned slaves and slaughtered innocents for their own gain. Not every civilization did that, and certainly not to that degree.
Imperial Rome famously had The Five Good Emperors who were: Nerva, Trajan ,Hadrian ,Antoninus Pius , and Marcus Aurelius. They had nearly a century of pretty solid rule. Also, I am gonna giggle at you guys doing a TH-cam friendly video of Dark Eldar.
I picture being around the emperor as being like standing in a room full of old electronics, you get a vaguely audible tinnitus style whine from overcharged capacitors.
I've found that the small crimes like the ice cream in the back pocket don't tend to get enforced, except in two situations - the cop is either having a bad day or you've somehow managed to piss them off to the pint that they're going to charge you with *something* or it's being tact on a bunch of other, larger charges to make a point.
Correct, attitude is one of the most influential variables in an arrest/charge. Sadly many people fail to realize that being polite, humble and helpful can be a huge tactical advantage if you use it right. Ego gets in the way and situations that would have resulted in a “just don’t do that again, have a good day sir “ spiral into “ get out of the car and put your hands behind your back. Being nice and polite even when you don’t mean it can be the difference between living life in easy mode and having a terrible time.
Technically, the one thing uniting all of the scattered factions if the Alpha Legion is that they pretty much all see the destruction of the Imperium as the only way to save humanity haha
I saw the visible excitement on Koda's face when the PaterNova was potentially described as "Fishy", in relation to the Navigators in Dune ! @Koda, I'm also a massive dune fangirl ! Much love and respect squee! 😅
One could argue that what the Romans called the 5 good emperors ( Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian,Antonius pious and Marcus Aurelius) were the longest streak of "benevolent and capable" autocratic rulers.
Genuinely hyped for the next one. Dark Eldar would be good but a break from human factions is welcome either way. Don't get me wrong the content is excellent but 40K is so focused on the imperium the change keeps things fresh.
Koda, Guilleman handles logistics within his order, and within the wider Astartes. The scope of the High Lord of logistics is MUCH greater than that and if Guilleman took on that role his time would be taken up entirely by Imperial admin and he wouldn't have time to y'know, BE A PRIMARCH.
You forgpt the part where as the traitors were being offed the Master of Assassins goes up the the Chaptermaster of the Minotaurs (the Highlords' personal attack dog chapter and were there to supportthe coup) wispers something in his ear and he stands up extra straight and says "ok boys. We're leaving."

5. There were 5 noble emperor's and they all ruled one after another. Then it was a steep decline. Nerva-Trajan-Hadrian-Antonius Pius- and the one everyone knows Marcus Aurelius
I just want to add is that the reason the high lords went so apeshit about Guilliman coming back was because of the whole Lord Commander part. No one would have dared to change it when he was alive, and then when he died there was no reason to change it. And then he comes back. He comes back and after thousands of years of the high lords having unquestionable command there is this guy who is better than them in every way, and he has absolute unquestionable authority over everything because none of you thought he might ever come back from his Lenin cosplay.
