    Fun fact, the SiS chipsets in AGP were a dumpster fire... no joke, they directly caused problems with at the time ATI gpus.
    And of course since AMD bought up ATI, they inherited that issue and the negative viewpoint on ATI drivers.
    The issue was 'not' present with nVidia chipsets for ATI AGP cards.
    This 2004 guide could also have mentioned the EISA or ISA slots that were just being fully phased out as well.
    And the connectors 'did' change, they went from ATX 20 + 4 connectors to 24+4 and then 24+8...
    Sata power cables were just starting to show up too, and some were even wired incorrectly.
    ATX power supplies also evolved through several versions and EPS become a standard eventually, bringing even higher standards to power supplies.
    Oh and before I forget, before the quality of PSUs was improved, Modular power supplies were a genuine problem at times and could cause problems with its modular connection points.
    Ram changed a lot too.. DDR1 was pretty new back then.
    I do not agree with that build guide, even in class in 2003? (might have been 2005) we were taught to install the cpu and heatsink 'before' we put the mainboard into the case.
    I would also like to point out that guides should mention to avoid using daisy chained power cables/connectors when connected through/to certain devices.
    You really should avoid connecting fans to the same power cable your hard drives are powered with for the most notable example I can think of on the spot.
    mm Firewire, technically a point to point networking technology, it was capable of faster than 10/100 speeds. Though mostly used for media devices. The big problem with firewire headers is that people would get them confused with USB headers on the mainboard at times for.. I dont know why.
    Other things sometimes found in 2004? Scsi drives, sas drives (could be a little early), sata drives, pci-x connectors on the mainboard...

    The funny thing is my is 4090 power cables if you follow 90s cable management logic will burn the cables, I almost did that on my build and I’m used to the old days so I only noticed after people started commenting; besides when big companies blatantly screw the consumer, 90s building style works perfectly fine.

    This will blow your mind but ATX has been around since 1995 starting with the pentium pro. Also installing drives before SATA was standard and 2004 you could still be using IDE drives (they were coexisting still), and parallel cables are a pain to deal with. They can be to short or worse to long., and the rounded versions which twisted them up and put them in a tube, often caused data integrity issues. They all blocked airflow. Most Cases did not have a backside with enough of a gap you could tuck things in either. You'd be shoving excess power cables into the bottom of the case's drive tray area. No modular power sups so no way to cut down on them either.

  • @idkrossplay
    @idkrossplay ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the clock speeds on ram aren't actually accurate, so your ddr3 ram isn't 24x faster than the ddr ram. modern ddr4 ram is about 15x faster than ddr ram though so it is a huge jump, but that's because of the transfer speeds on the bus and stuff like that. If you clock ddr4 ram at 400mhz and then you use ddr@400mhz, the ddr4 will be a lot faster even though the clock speeds are the same
    another thing, those "pcie" with fewer pins, that was called AGP, and it was way slower than pcie, but since pcie was only a year old at that point, that's why they were still used

    3:55 No such thing as a 2400Mhz DDR3 RAM chip. They're 1200Mhz, 2400MT/s. This is explained to you by the very magazine you're reading in the "notes" column next the different RAM chips presented. The first one is "one access per clock cycle", meaning it sends data once every cycle (hertz). The second one is 2x per cycle (DDR - double data rate), and at 100Mhz that would make it 200MT/s, meaning the DDR3-2400 is 12x faster, not 24x.

    Both companies were founded by former employes of Fairchild Semiconductor. AMD joined the cpu business 1979 roughly a year after Intel started selling the i8086.

    • @Apocalyman
      @Apocalyman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah then thats why you have extremely high temps. Go get new thermal paste (I personally only used arctix mx4 so I recommend that but of course there are better (You can do your own research if you would like) clean the previous thermal paste from the CPU and from the cooler with Isopropyl alcohol, apply new thermal paste (only on the CPU, and not much just a bit in the middle is enough cause it spreads) install the cooler back and you should be good to go. The rule of the thumb is (at least for me) is to replace the thermal paste as soon as you remove the CPU cooler but putting the cooler back twice without reapplying thermal paste is a bad no no
