    YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR REVIEW. In late 2022, someone at Withings/Health Mate thought the app needed upgrading, and in doing so completely wrecked the functionality. My scales no longer talk to my app, and despite uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times under instruction from Withings, disassociating, resetting, rebooting it still failed to work. It used to be a good hardware software marriage, now it's ruined. Your review while current and relevant at the time is no longer that way. If I saw your review and then bought the scales, I'd be disappointed in the scales and angry that you failed to mention the pitfalls of the app update.

    • @joshjoshspangler
      @joshjoshspangler ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dynamicmotion1735 I've been using one for over two years. A software update in late 2022 (Health Mate) caused many users to experience functionality issues with the scales. ie app not syncing with scales, connection issues etc etc. There are more accurate scales with better associated apps on the market. My issues have still not been rectified since last year and their "support" is based in the UK only, so a question you ask today will take a day to be received and potentially another day to be responded to, making for a very slow and frustrating fix should you ever encounter a problem.

    Hey. Fair comment. It's still a great scale that communicates with your phone by wi-fi to run the charts. But I must admit I use the weight trend balanced with the water reading only. When there is more water I expect the weight higher and that is exactly what happens, so that part does work and a smart scale I guess of any kind is always better than a dumb scale in that regard. I don't have your alternate scales so cannot comment on body fat as I have never trusted or used that reading. Leaving this aside the rest is a great package, stylish in the bathroom and has significantly improved my health. I particularly like the small but effective mini-chart on the scale itself. Amazing how useful that is compared to having to fiddle with a phone as well - though the long term trend is there if needed :)

    Will you be testing the announced "withings body scan"?
    Theyve added leads for your hands and I'm wondering how much of an improvement those will make for overall accuracy. (And how accurate the new individual limb readings are in comparison)

    • @jaredc3608
      @jaredc3608 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Late answer, but: The handles give a more accurate measure of total body (using electric current, so the circuit is more complete). Without the handles you're generally just getting a measure of legs - which is why, with a lot of these cheaper scales, you can lose body fat but not see if reflected in the % measured by the scale, especially in men where a lot of fat is stored in the torso. If you have the $$, it's worth it, especially if you like to use data for motivation. Just measure first thing in the morning as hydration levels can effect the measurement and will vary more later in the day.

    I have a Withings scale and the body fat reading is consistent when I take multiple reads a few minutes apart but can be wildly different from day to day. I think today I showed 2% less body fat than yesterday. I attribute this to water too. I have seen other channels compare different home solutions to measure body fat taking the readings one after another and they found every solution had a large range. Too bad you didn’t take the readings on those two scales minutes after having the body scan to remove the time variability. I agree trends is the best way to get a better idea of the accurate number

    The “Athlete” button changes thing dramatically. I have this scale and it says 26-28% bf normally and 18-19% on athlete mode. Based on reading their page I believe I’m able to go by the Athlete mode but unless you’ve done a DEXA you wouldn’t know for sure.

    • @hypnoticlizard9693
      @hypnoticlizard9693 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its not accurate either way because it only measures electrical impedance through your legs. The thing that can be helpful is the trend of the bodyfat. So if you set the athlete mode, then if the fat is trending in the direction you want, that's good enough.
