I wake up in the middle of the night, binge watch and take notes to these videos. When I look at my pictures and videos I’ve taken in the past and compare to these improvement principles I get so excited because I see exactly where i was being mr boring.
Then I start to think back to the situations I thought was exciting but when I captured it, it didn’t give the same feeling. I have thought experiments on how I could have used the scenarios to add more context and depth to pics/vids.
When I’m practicing your process les now and reviewing, the results often surprise me, “wow did I really shoot that”
You have massively influenced changing the beliefs on how I view making content, so thank you 🙏🏽

Thank you. It's taken quite a few searches and lots of videos that weren't on target but finally, this one popped up. Exactly what I was looking for and explains why my snow scenes look so static and jarring. Nearly all were human I just wanted a scene. And you couldn't ask for a better location.

I have to say, I have been watching videos about exactly this for a few years, always practicing along the way. However, you actually explained it in a way that makes sense. Everyone always says, have a story, have a beginning middle and end, but no one actually explains exactly WHAT that means. Same thing with other aspects of the video. I'm very well done and amazing job of explaining it for someone to understand.

Thank you for keeping it simple using only a smartphone, this is hard enough without all the Arri’s, Red’s, Resolves, LUTs, Rec709, rgb parades and what have you! Some of us have small kids and a lot of family and work commitments, we don’t need to be world class DPs, just want our family holiday videos be more presentable and “cinematic” :)

I love these video, they serve as a great inspiration of ways to do new shots.
Sometimes I try to "copy" the shots, other times to make it "same same, but different" to give it some sort of twist, to make it my own so to speak.
Great video Steve, pls do keep it up.
(it would be interesting if you could go a bit into details about color grading when editing, this is one factor where I haven't really found my feet)
    Cheers,
    Thomas
