Yes, Yahtzee is plugging his newest book, but the book is clearly a passion project of his. As opposed to the microtransactions in videogames that not only cost nothing to make, but they don't have any form of importance besides making the already rich corporations even richer

All of the talk about Clancy being dead in this one -
I spent most of my life in the books and writing biz and most of my friends are from those circles. One of them was one of Tom Clancy's ghost writers.
Clancy only wrote the first three books published under his name. He'd write outlines, then just synopsis, and finally vague two line story ideas in emails and had an office full of writers and licensing agents writing and okaying and selling the rights to use his name. For the last ten years of his life he wasn't a creative in the least respect.
The few people given credit as co-writers and ghostwriters were usually friends and often had literally zero creative input on the projects bearing their names and the real ghostwriters never given their due. They didn't even get royalties. Their work was spec - "here's $4k, you'll get another $6k on completion" type work.
I liked a lot of Clancy books, and my friend wrote probably the best of the later series. But Tom treated everyone like shit and bald facedly lied about all the hard work he did and the long lonely hours spent writing.
A lot of guys with easily bruised balls would hate to know how many of their favorites were written by women, too.

The credits gag reminds me of the "Sonic Sez" short where an amazing toy robot is only $10, but it won't properly function without hundreds of dollars in accessories.

The last part really hits home. Can't even be hopeful for the new star wars game or dragon age 4 knowing that EA is behind the game. Or any Bethesda future releases due to how much they changed for the worse. Konami taking beloved games and turning them in pachinko machines. Ubisoft and Activisions greed. Blizzard's response to the Hong Kong Protests. Games likes NBA2k20 that have gambling imagery and still gets away with an E rating cause the ESRB are sent a 2 minute video by the developers and that is supposed to justify giving the game a fair rating.
Thankfully at least now there is some kick back and hopefully it continues to grow
Yeah I agree man, I'm taking a break from all of that and just playing Hollow Knight: small studio produced, hours of playability, and everything can be unlocked in game no payments required
I'm really hoping games like DOOM Eternal and Cyberpunk 2077 really push for a new level of standards for gaming. Id Software and CD Projekt Red have been my two golden boys for ages. If anyone can crank out great games without any bullshit, it's them.

To be fair, while Clive Barker's Jericho was badly executed, repetitive, and more edgy than one of those spoof sixteen bladed Gilette razors, at least it had an unusual premise and design aesthetic, and it actually stuck with it from beginning to end. That's more than what you can say about 90% of modern AAA games on the market, which is just downright depressing.

When I heard a Ghost Recon game with survival theme, I was honestly pretty excited. Then I remember it’s made by Ubbysoft.
Jinn P yro I was optimistic and excited. Then I heard about the loot system and the random RPG focus. Afterward I heard about the glitches and I’m kind of tempted to pass on this forever.
When I have known that this game requires a constant Internet connection, I decided to not buy it.
I’d love a “tactical” game where enemies are smart enough to chuck a basket of grenades through the doorway at you instead of belly flopping into the pile of their dead friends.
Well, Insurgency Sandstorm added a co-op mode where all the enemies only have knives and molotovs. The AI very quickly decides 20 molotovs solves a problem a lot better then a few knives.
This game was about as lively as Tom Clancy.
The is the single most brutal, most savage, most well crafted hard lined down to earth roast of modern "AAA" gaming that I've had the pleasure of listening to. Thank you Zero Punctuation very cool!

The very concept of Time Savers are so hilarious to me. It is literally the developer stating out loud that their game is literally less than worthless. That it is so boring or terrible that it is worth spending money to not experience it.

The point he's making is that these microtransactions let them get more money by making the games worse. When they made games that were actually fun, you just paid for the game and that was it, no more money. Now the games are boring, so after you pay for the game they make you pay again to make it go by faster. So more money for a worse product.

Fun fact: grave rent is absolutely a thing. American cemeteries generally offer plots in perpetuity, but that's deeply impractical for a variety of reasons. So most of the rest of the world operates on some sort of time-limited rent/lease system where you have to keep re-upping or allow the plot to be re-used.

the worst part of the non customizable growly voice is that when you play coop your teammates have 1 of 3 completely different voices with a much better performance, so you could totally select a different voice if they wanted to let you.
Also, Rodney Mullen plays Jace Skell. Not sure why, but its pretty rad
I recently finished a run of this game that took 200 hours just to prove a point.
You can finish 90% of the game by getting in a helicopter with 3 NPCs, flying the helicopter over an enemy base and letting the NPCs shoot everything dead. I cleared every camp on the map doing this. The 10% that I was out of the helicopter was walking to a helicopter, picking up an item or being in a cutscene (for the 5 seconds I was in it before I skipped). I fired a gun maybe 10 times in the whole 200 hours. It's the first game I've played where I've barely had to PLAY the game, there's no challenge.
Ubisoft staff: hey how are we going to make the new ghost recon
Head developer: copy and paste division 2 add some slightly realism effect, only with the healing factor, cut all bosses out make it more about technology and less about the world ending KEEP ALL THE GLITCHES.

The AAA market deserves his derision. For a critic, there's very rarely anything so bad it doesn't deserve attention, and even then, it's the critic's job to warn the public.
Its worth doing it for the odd AAA game that isn't shit, and to take the piss out of the rest.
You can also go to JRPGs, they are mostly clean of AAA nonsense.
