It should not be called "artificial intelligence". It should be called "large scale nonlinear correlation and relevance recognition". That's all it is. Pretty helpful in my day to day life, nothing too frightening. Great explanation, Rabbi.

If I don't easily grasp relatively simple facts about physics (for example) on what basis do I dismiss an argument about climate change or AI (or any other subject) because the argument doesn't make sense to me. The fact that someone doesn't understand something or agree with an opinion doesn't make it false.
Dear David--ask questions. Ask basic questions. Anyone who really knows their field can explain it in a way that any average sentient person can understand. If you don't, it is possible that you are being mentally steamrollered. It is even likely. I may need an expert to explain to me how he thinks a cow belch threatens the sealevel. But I don't necessarily believe he knows what he is talking about since sea level hasn't changed by even an inch in the past 300 years. That is what I meant. I won't necessarily understand how a nuclear power station works in detail but I do know that a generator must be spun to generate electricity and someone who really knows the field could explain how a nuclear reaction produces heat which produces steam which drives a turbine etc. Cordially ~ RDL

Well now, I am a little confused. I was under the impression that the fear of AI was not of the destruction of humankind, but was more based on whoever develops AI first will control the world's economy. China and Russia both spend incredible amounts of money on developing AI and it looks like they will be the the ones who will control the economies. I thought.... and was probably wrong... that Musk's remarks were more to try to slow the other countries AI development so that the US could try to catch up. How I hope it isn't too late for Trump to right the wrongs of the present administration.
