- The saga of the Critical Role / DnDBeyond jingle and subsequent advertisement animated in the style of old 80s Thundercats cartoons.
Including footage from Critical Role Campaign 2, Episode 7 "Hush" (Feb 22, 2018) and Campaign 2, Episode 21 "Stalker in the Swamp" (May 31, 2018).
"if they dont make that, they are fools"
DnD Beyond : hold my beer
Hold our invisible wand...
Hold my Trost
D&D Beyond: Nat 20 on constitution saving throw
“Hold my dice” more like.
I'm gonna listen to that everytime for the best reasons, Sam is amazing
It do be so good do
You can totally hear Sam’s voice mixed into the final drum beat
thats my fav part
Do do do do do do do dodo
Let’s be honest.
SAM GAVE PART OF HIS SOUL TO THAT JINGLE!!!!
that drum roll has as much soul as bohemian rhapsody
Favorite part of the song
I have never picked up on that before!!!
I wish I could have seen their reactions as the video was playing, not just at the end of it
Me too
its insane that the jingle he came up with is first draft and final product got to be unchanged from his version , sam is a creative god
“We’re an 80’s cartoon guys!”
Bman has there been any updates about that?
When I first saw the animated ad for DnD Beyond, I got major Thundercats vibes! Especially with the song!
So cool, especially when you realize that this is the seed that led to the Vox Machina Kickstarter.
... and Sam kept it secret like a Christmas present for his buddies
I don't know what Critical Role would be without Sam Riegal. The man is a creative genius.
In one of the episodes of season one, Sam couldn't make it to the session. Taliesin tried to mimic Sam but awfully failed by eventually saying "I'm not Sam Riegal ok??"... later on he said "It's a sad realization that only one of us is truly irreplaceable".
@@MrYoneta1 i know its late but you dont know the Episode by Chance?
@@nicobaumann2832 Not off the top of my head I'm sorry. Season 1 for sure. Sam doesn't miss too many episodes so should be fairly easy to find by skimming through.
@@MrYoneta1 i will thanks
@@nicobaumann2832 it's episode 91, "Vox Machina go to Hell"
Laura's reaction when she realizes they're about to play it again gives me life every single time
That's my favorite part, too.
She is such a child! And that's why we love her.
Laura's amazing!!
"We're gonna play it tonight and you might enjoy it"
If that doesnt get him the award for the understatement of the decade, I dont know what will.
Am I the only one getting goosebumps every time I watch this?
TEKRific no, you are not alone. I think we all have ’em
I STILL do. 8 months later. It is SO well done.
every time l watch/hear the song
It's apparently a brain thing, where certain people are wired to physically react to music tones that they enjoy. I have multiple music tracks that give me the same reaction.
Nope
What I really love is how everyone's laughing along with the joke in the beginning, and within fifteen seconds of Sam singing there's, like, a genuine edge of "but this is GOOD though??" to their expressions. Domino moment of the ages.
"I want to play D&D for my birthday."
And years later...
Jaffe's reaction is priceless. He can't believe it. "What! What!!"
my favorite part every time!!! 🤘
his standard response to Sam is usually "what ARE you?" too stunned this time around
When I saw this live I went "There's no way this is real - it has to just be Sam messing around" then I opened D&D Beyond and it was on their page and I couldn't help but go "Well shit, D&D Beyond is awesome"
the d&d marketing guy in charge of watching Sam's ads to make sure they don't get them in trouble: "um, boss? you need to hear this. no, it's not bad. it's.... it's perfect."
Sam: "And it's really fast so we thought should we may--"
Travis: "Yes"
I could watch them freak out about this for hours.
Wait.
Not could.
DID.
Hearing the original/improv version and then the professional version, it is awesome.
Like the base version Sam did really was the ONLY way to do this song, and they did it perfectly
As a side, who else wants someone to chronicle this whole campaign and make a tv show out of it.
Like they already have the voice acting done!
Oh, look who’s ahead of the times
Yeah buddy
And now we're getting the Mighty Nein animated series!!
I heard gnomes when they said knolls and I was imagining M9 committing gnome mass murder in a cave
Gnolls?
Critical gnolls
Yeees!! #criticalknolls
OH MY GOD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE
@@hip2besquare632 Nope. Just *"Regular Gnolls, Regular Gnolls"*
I really wish they would've had a sidecam for the reaction faces. I hate that we never get to see their instant reactions for awesome things like these
I love that this is, more or less, a room full of people fan-girl/-boying *over themselves.*
the thing is "Riegel" is German and means "bars"
no wonder why this man is spitting them
I started watching critical role because of this video.
I think that's the best compliment I could have gotten. Happy to oblige, sir!
Me too!!
You'll have to do an updated version of this soon... :D
That's true. But I'll have to wait until the trailer for the Vox Machina cartoon comes out. That way I can take this video and append the premiere of the Mighty Nein intro, some interview stuff leading into the Kickstarter animated sequence, throw in some upcoming behind-the-scenes stuff, and then bookend it with the final Vox Machina trailer. The whole point is to tell the story of how it got made. And I think that would do nicely.
I would pay to see their reactions live honestly
Thank you, Legend of Vox Machina, for leading me down this rabbit hole.
Same. I was watching The Boys and got a recommendation from Amazon about Vox Machina and I decided to check it out (being a fan of DnD and a longtime player from years ago).
Loved the first season (actually I was hooked after the opening scene where the other team gets totally wrecked) and decided to check out their sessions here on TH-cam. I noticed the Critical Role logo and had seen the YT shorts here and there and decided to jump in.
I've got all the way through C1 and am on C2E23 now.
Thank you so much for putting this together. I'm sure all critters like me just watched separate clips over and over in this EXACT order for ourselves and when we showed our friends!
I love watching this. Their glee once the clip had been shown. We
I love Marisha's "I'm teary" at 4:02 and Laura's excitement at 5:00. Honestly, the look on Laura's face is something Sam should post on his flask one night.
i rewatch this ever so often to be happy. seriously. its so great.
@@ConoverBombJr The only thing that may have equaled it was when Matt, playing as Pumat Sol, told the group that he was reading The Daring Adventures of Taryon Darrington. The sheer joy on everyone's faces, but especially Sam and Laura, was super cool to watch.
Who could have known... that these short moments... would Kickstart a media juggernaut... that will soon be premiering on Amazon Prime.
I just know I will watch this again and again. Jolly vibes, love and respect
SPOILER FOR CR CAMPAIGN 2 FIRST 30ish EPISODES
It makes me weirdly sad that this is the only real animation we ever got from Molly ..... imagine more of him i just miss him man...
Thank God mighty nein series just got announced
@@samuelgarrison1952 same, I will enjoy watching the Circusman shine!
And now, we'll see the Might Nein in an actual animated series!
I like that he did a 12 part harmony, Sam is a blessing
DnD Beyond was constantly throwing this ad at me
I didn't hear about it on Critical Role, I heard about Critical Role from this ad
Ha, it actually has Sam's drum parts in it too!
seeing nott hide behind frojde melts my heart
that why nott best girl EVER
I'm terribly late to the party but this is beautiful.
Sam Riegal just IS a bard.
The whole group's reaction is amazing. So much shock, Travis is like a kid at Christmas, it's beautiful.
Thank you for putting this together! I'm so happy.
I have watched CR from the beginning and there is a wierd sort of fun in watching Sam's add get more and more wierd and outlandish over time, as well as watching all the others groan in pain whenever he hits a new low. But then there are these gold nuggets, when he really hits it on the head and they are all applauding and cheering, because the add is actually good (like in this case), and I'm laughing and cheering as if he was my child who just won gold at the local track meet. It's so silly, but I get so much enjoyment out of Sam being recognized for his comedic genius.
Matt saying "it' so awesome" at 3:57 gives me so much joy
Sam is a legend. Thank you Lord 🙏
Action figures busting through walls. 😂 Poor Taliesin was kind of prophetic. Now they have action figures!
2:09 "And going on 'til infinity" that didn't age well, did it?
Elaborate
i always get a bit sad when I see Molly in this...
Atleast Molly will live forever in our hearts as the community and forever in the dndbeyond advertisement.
Long may he reign.
spoilers
Hey Martin, given the latest episodes, do you want to change your comment?
@@ConoverBombJr spoilers, I didn't have time to properly watch since ep 55ish...
And then Sam made Ashley do an a capella cover...
Believe it or not, your choice, but I just got the d&d ad with critical role when I clicked on this vid lmao
I bet this sparked their idea for their own cartoon some day….Sam will always be CR’s MVP ❤️😀
Only just realized the one who was a ghost was the game master.
I can't believe it's 2 years old and still so goddamn good.
This brings me so much joy :)
still a banger
I have only recently discovered Critical roll and This D&D Beyond jingle. This animated video made me tear up. I want to see a show like this. Thank you for posting this.
I don't actually like d&d beyond, but man I love this song haha
This song is SO FUCKING GOOOOOD like I can't get enough of it
I love the giddyness you see when it occurred. They are great
So good
Everytime I get sad, for whatever reason, I come back to this video
D&D Beyond is still using the jingle and have now used an instrumental version as bump music in their developer update! th-cam.com/users/clipUgkx6uXtKLqHW63xnYy5nB0xOHYMCTCWINk_
this is AWESOME
This is the most satisfying thing
This is why they paid Them 45k pr episode
I can't help but feel like this started out as Sam trolling Travis and then evolved into something awesome.
Travis: If they don't make that they are FOOLS!
DnDBeyond: Ight bro bet
Stuff like this makes me wish I was alive durring the 80s
I came over her for more 80s goodness after watching the legend of vox machina s2 e6. Sam is amazing. These guys really did it. And now we’re getting m9 animated too.
I mean, it's just perfect.
Listening to the podcast of this episode, perfect hahah
I think my ears just came
It sounds like the magic school bus Theme i’m getting like in like a feeling of like the 80s feeling
Literally first draft perfection
I still think the coolest part of this ad is how accurately they portray each one of the characters and how they fight calab with his fire bo deflecting missles. Molly....hurting himself XD
I desperately need a Britblade Fjord update
Maybe you could add the new orchestral version that D&DBeyond use for their videos now
This was the moment they realised they just had to make a full blown cartoon :D
talking kitty cat
3:19 Fjord's F belt buckle
press Fjord to pay respects
its in my head more than anything now
5:42 Haven't the DnD peeps learned not to look at a beholder yet XD
Or Lucien, who just seems to be a beholder walking around on two legs.
0:51 Sam Riegel's inner Jack Black, tell me I'm wrong
the true precursor to the legend of vox machina.
I would looooove to see the make of this!!
Matthew brown exactly
hold up, mcream???
We need an updated version with the parody for travis and the version of ashley (i believe its s2 e98)
As well as Ashley's more recent version where you put your perfect warlock in your shoes.
....welp.
?
@@ConoverBombJr WOTC fucked up royally (2 consecutive nat 1’s wouldn’t begin to explain it) and people are canceling DND beyond subscriptions
@@Starman062 To be fair, though, this was made like 4 years before D&D Beyond was acquired by WoTC. So I feel it's fairly divorced from the current drama.
@@jasonutty52 Touché
Thank you for putting this together! It's so great to see the whole saga.
One thing I wonder is -- why didn't Jester get more screen time?? If even Yasha did (love to Yasha, but she's around less) it seems unfair that Jester really didn't get any moments to herself. I would have been bummed if I were Laura --but hopefully she isn't!!
I think her "character moment" is at 5:38 where she's healing Fjord (since that's a cleric thing). But I know what you mean, I love Jester!
I mean this was cute, but is critical role content realllly going to do well if animated? I dunno guys.
Critical Role sucks so very much
Yet you care just enough about them to leave a comment.
