I got my first guitar when I was 3 years old and it was made in China. I’m 43 now. I am building my first own guitar right now and I appreciate the skills those workers have, especially working on that pace. Yamaha guitars are those that I would recommend everyone and I do to my students. They are just made right. Depending on the price you get what you want. Surely most of those have crappy soundboards, laminated sides and back that consist more of glue than wood but if you go up the price range you can have a really nice solid wood Yamaha too. The machining is somehow awkward, yes, but it ads to precision and consistency and even the expensive brands have adapted it. If you want a fully handmade guitar the traditional way then you will have to pay the price and live with the perfection of human imperfection. The point though is that a traditional luthier doesn’t need electricity and power tools at all to create this perfection and then for me it becomes art because then it shows how much talent someone really has. But why make yourself more work if it isn’t needed right.

I worked in a factory and lasted 3 months. Some of the most boring and thereby tiring work I’ve done. Hats off to those that do it week in and week out. Thanks for the vid. Lots of solid, humble people starring in it.

My spruce/rosewood LS6 was made at the Hangzhou factory November 11, 2009 number 163. Totally flawless. Low end sound is warm, the mids are complex and the highs are bright Thank you Yamaha and all the skilled workers at the Hangzhou facility for making such a fantastic instrument at a great price.

Yes, nothing is perfect with Yamaha: Not an artisan traditional work, but it allowed everyone to get a very smart guitar for a cheap price ! I bought a folk LV 35 years ago ( better than many Martins) and it is still a great instrument in perfect conditions. I recently bought a classic guitar cg 192, and very well built, a good sound, not a great sound, but very sympathetic . Both of them for a few euros, nothing to regret . I also own an Alhambra guitar, which cost much, but the difference is really not very important. ... I think except for really good guitarists, Yamaha is enough to be happy and make sound everywhere. If i had been a clever instrumentalist, i would have bought a hand-made guitar from culture heritage in a real humble work shop as we can find easily in France and Spain, but it cost about 2000 to 4000 euros .

Hace varios años atrás, me dedicada a construir guitarras y bajos eléctricos en Bs as.

Take a closer look! Then look at videos of Martin or Gibson and you'll see a big difference. American guitars are high priced fo a reason. Yamaha don't use nearly the same wood types and sound nowhere near the same as American guitar builders. Everything Yamaha know about building guitars is from ripping off American guitars and copying them!

you'd think that mass produced guitars are all automated, but little did i realize there are so many manual work involved, everyone there is like a mini luthier.

who needs a soul when you have mechanical precision

    • @garyheaton4791
      @garyheaton4791 5 ปีที่แล้ว

That is ALL so called soul ever was when it came to building it, and still is when it comes to any instrument.
The whole thing about even the old pre war Martin's, was how EXACTLY they worked at making one a perfect clone of the ones before it.
Sure they ALL pretty much sound different, but the playability of the same Model is almost identical.
Only wood variations no builder has control over. (The same wood from the same tree will more often than not sound different from each other.)
And THAT wood variation is what I believe to be the "soul" your thinking of. Or not..that's up to you. For me however, the Sound is what Makes the guitar.
      But..that's just MHO.
      Peace!

After watching this video I'm 100% sure I'll never buy a Yamaha guitar. The bridge is BOLTED to the harmonic lid! The assembly process of the arm doesn't look very solid by assembling it after the body of the guitar has been constructed and it's not integrated on this process. At the end of the assembly process there is not a guitar constructor checking the sound and performance of the guitar, verifying that there is not interference between frets and strings and so on. But the most important part: there is no soul in these guitars.

I full agree with you !! Where is the final control, to check the validity of the sound, the appearance of the guitar ? and the packaging : it's awful !!!

Everything looked great but the last step, they put the guitar in the box without any foam around the sides and top & bottom for shipping protection, That is how they get damaged during shipping, Most companies pack it in foam.

Yamaha need to do a basic setup at the factory.
The action on mine was way to high tons if fret buzz I needed to get a pro setup just to play it.
The quality of the workers was perfect I love my guitar however Yamaha needs to to get additional eorkerbto set up the intonation action bridge nut neck angle so these are 0layabke 9ut 9f the box like the Japanese made ones.
