I know nothing about working with concrete, yet I find these videos deeply satisfying and mesmerizing. I guess I just enjoy watching true masters at work. What is the dry material that he rubs into the wetter concrete? Is it lime?
This is what I can gather from this videos. Apparently they use a mix of slow drying mortar so they have more time to work and they use either the sand or I think it is the dry mortar mix to then making the drying faster after they finish the coat they were working on
@Sgt Boz Probably but where I am from is also very humid and depending on the mortar mix, it dries up faster than it looks in the video. If you look closely, everytime he puts sand or (I think it is) dry mortar mix is when he needs the mortar mix to be drier to either refine it or cut it.

Nobody here would take that sort of time and care for a pillar. They would use preformed concrete parts and sack them.
