Honestly I’m quite happy with the way UVA closed the game out. They went on a 55-20 run from mid first half to the end of the second half. Almost had a heart attack when they were losing by 14 but they’re looking pretty good for the rest of the tournament. Just a lot of nervousness in the beginning.
They are 2 different teams and you are never sure which will show up.
It was actually a 55-14 run before the two garbage-time 3s by Gardner-Webb in the last minute. The first 15 minutes looked like a replay of the UMBC game, the last 25 minutes looked like a typical 1 vs. 16 mismatch.
Congrats to Virginia on a well-earned victory, but dang am I proud to be a Runnin' Bulldog! A heck of a season, and memories that will last a lifetime! Our crowd was INCREDIBLE! Thanks to everybody who showed up to support our Dawgs!

Great job the first fifteen minutes of the game... my stomach felt like it was being hammered into a small object until we got control of the game back
As an Oklahoma fan who lives in Johns Island SC now, I must say that the Running Bulldogs are a very impressive and well coached team. If they would have had 1 athletic 6' 10" guy, the margin would have been much tighter. I was there , 5 rows up and watching. Very out sized , but fearless and competitive.
@@GOODYFORYOUGUDI4ME Much appreciated man! Their bigs just took over in the 2nd half, and we couldn't match up, but the 1st half was incredible to watch! I was in section 219 with most of the students, I'm sure you heard us loud and clear!
@@thomasmanning8402 Yes , I was laughing at how loud you guys were. It was awesome. I was unaware that Gardner Webb was in Boiling Springs NC until I googled it at half time. I suppose the traveling wasn't too bad.

Not sure why everyone is saying the refs won. Last time I checked the refs didn’t make Gardner Webb turn the ball over 12 times in the 2nd half
Gamecock Nation That’s just not true. Yes they missed a couple calls but it was mainly UVA playing great defense and forcing turnovers. Even if they did call those fouls it would’ve been insignificant to the game’s outcome. There’s no reason why the refs would purposely miss calls, why would they care if UVA loses again?

I went to this school The Webb and even played on the team. G.W. is the only thing going in this one stop light town so the students and community are loyal. Great turn out great crowd participation and good effort by the team.

Diakete had a horrendous defensive game. Most of the runup of points in the first half were completely on him.
I agree. However, he is also one of the main reasons they got back in, and eventually one the game. If he could just up his defense side of his game, he'd be dirty.

Lol have you ever seen a basketball game in your life? Upsets happen all the time, a 16 beating a 1 was actually overdue, the fact that it hadn’t happened yet was improbable. The coach they have now took them from an average team to top few in the country, sometimes the best. Firing a coach like him over one or two games would be idiotic, no matter how high the stakes were.
I'm sorry, how many Acc titles, coach of the year, one seeds, etc. Do you have? Oh, and have you ever coached players like Malcolm Brogdon, Mike Scott, Joe Harris, or Idk someone like Klay Thompson? Oh I bet you even got offered a few head coaching jobs in the NBA. GTFOH

They're very possibly gonna win the tourney anywho. Remember that Gardner Webb beat two ACC teams this season already. They aren't exactly a slouch. Virginia has shown they can make big-time comebacks from halftime and second half deficits. Let's go Wahoos!! One of the top 3 teams in America!

Wow, so let’s ignore the 13 free throws the refs gifted UVA vs the 3 for GW. Let’s also ignore 4 bogus traveling violations on GW, like all of a sudden this D1 team doesn’t know how to properly dribble a ball. The fix was grossly in and obvious.
The travels were not bogus, go back and watch them. It only feels like they were bogus because travels are never called, they happen quite a lot. Half of the free throws “gifted” to UVA were completely legitimate, and the other half could definitely be argued for in court, although I will admit if they were the sixteen seed, they probably would’ve only gotten the legitimate half of those calls
