Blower Won't Start: Removing the Carburetor - Replacing Fuel Line

  • My neighbor said his blower wouldn't start so I offered to take a look. The issue ended up being a fuel problem. The fuel line from the tank to the carb had been pulled off. In order to get it back on, I had to remove the air filter and carburetor. This video shows the process step by step for disassembly and reassembly. Let me know if you have any questions.

    My echo blower is working fine, but my echo back sprayer is not. It started one time after not being used a year and a half, and it died after a few seconds. I noticed the fuel line came disconnected right below the primer bulb. I reconnected it, but it would not start back up. I then noticed the primer bulb had busted, so I replaced that as well. It still wouldn't start. I really didn't need it at the time. I really just wanted to see if it would start, so I just left it alone for a few months. Tried to start it a couple days ago and the same thing as the first time. It actually started, ran for a few seconds, and stopped. I haven't tried running it with the filter off or made any adjustments to the carb. I was thinking of getting an actual bulb from a place that sells actual echo parts, replacing the fuel lines, or replacing the carb. I also put a new spark plug before I even tried it the first time because I knew it hadn't been replaced in a long time.

      I think replacing the fuel lines and primer bulbs will be the best next step.

    my blower is the same model I believe and it won’t start unless I spray starting fluid. has new carb, fuel filter and fresh gas. I noticed it’ll stay running longer when I keep priming it (pushing the bulb) what do you think?

    • @TightWadDIY

      Possibly a crack in a fuel line?

      @@TightWadDIY is it possible to have a crack and not leak? Everything seems to be dry on the fuel lines. It has that black protection plastic coil around both lines I never undid it to check since I didn’t see any wetness.

    Hey sir, I replaced the carb, spark plug and fuel filter/air filter, on my echo PB-500H, backpack blower. Fuel bulb fills with fuel and it will fire up and run momentarily, but dies. Any troubleshooting advice? No leaks, no obvious signs to me, thanks for any knowledge that helps

      Just bought a 2017 PB -580T model from a Pawn Shop during a %50 percent off sale. My issue my be similar. I have to remove the air filter cover & air filter just to get enough air into the carburator to turn over and stay fired. Lots of residue in the air filter compartment outside the carburator. So lots of uncombusted fuel. White smoke out the uncovered air filter. Have to just keep pulling to "dry it out" like its flooded just after one pull. Once started I can immediately put the air filter back on and screw cover on. Even after running hot and shutting down I at least have to take the air filter cover off so it can get enough air to start it again. Sucky! Just replaced spark plug. No help, so carb is next. Will replace air filter but it is clean. I start my mower like this sometimes. Take off the air filter cover. No go. Take off the filter itself. Starter up! But put that filter back on right away so junk don't get sucked into your engine. Maybe a crappy solution to a longterm problem or even a horrible one time go but I am just happy to get er fired up!

      @seahawks jaz I did buy a new carb kit from amazon for about 30 dollars but am lazy and haven't replaced it. The New Carb Kits do have high low adjustment screws that don't require a special tool. So looking forward to that. I still have the same issue but I can start my blower every time if I do the following. Remove air filter cover. Take out air filter. Turn to choke. Hit Bulb like 2 times is all. Make sure to squeeze trigger all the way and lock it at full throttle. Then I am able to pull twice to get a start. Then switch choke off. Then pull to start. The put air filter back in. Then put air filter cover back and and screw tight. __ If for whatever reason I can't get a start tho it usually always has too much gas and not enough air. So I will then. Turn choke off. And just keep pulling to cycle piston to try to manually spit out excess fuel until I can get a white and sooty start. I can't even get my blower to idle so I just start it and run it full throttle and do my job and then turn it off once. So this should be completely fixed with high low screw adjustements. But those are really expensive for the echo model. So I just descided to get the new carb kit instead. If I ever get motivated to install that carb kit I will let you know if the high low screws were what was causing such a sooty no air start. However, I might have to angle grind a pocket for the cable lever on the new carburator. This video with this time stamp shows you that that is the case. th-cam.com/video/aOG3_AgvFE4/w-d-xo.html Anyway, that is what I got. Hope it helps!

      That is a fuel issue then. I bet the fuel line or primer bulb is broken or cracked.

      Test your spark plug, add new fuel, make sure the air filter isn’t clogged. Those are the three main things to check.

    How would the blower start if the choke was on still

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is what it’s made to do. You start it with the choke on then turn the choke off. If I left the choke on, it would have turned off but I turned the choke off right after it started.
