IBERIA 747s in New York and Madrid

- Spain's Iberia had an interesting fleet of Boeing 747s (from the 747-100 to the 747-400) seen in this clip are of the 747-200 series only, I did get to shoot 2 of the 747-300s but never caught the two 747-400s Iberia leased. First off, 747-256B, EC-GAG is seen crabbing onto runway 13R then taking off from runway 31R at New York's JFK and the rare Rolls Royce powered TF-ABA is seen upon arriving at IBeria's base at Madrid-Barajas. When in fact, most of Iberia 747s were P&W (Pratt & Whitney powered.

My first flight was on a Iberia 747, to this day it's still my favorite airliner.
This color scheme looks better than the current new livery in my opinion.

Estoy muy de acuerdo contigo, te felicito eres muy inteligente, tengo un vehículo en mi pais Rep. DOMINICANA y realizare un proyecto con los colores de esa bandera, es un Mazda 929 año 93 es color NEGRO con perlas verdes, es un sedán deportivo de 4 puertas, sé que se vera espectacular con las rayas que se le plasmaran al auto, que de por si, es una joya de la ingenieria, creada po dos ingenieros, uno Norteamericano y otro Japones, hecho en Japon, pero version AMERICANA y traído desde Miami a mi país, por eso el diseño de esa MÁQUINA..
I love IBs livery on the 747!
Pity that Iberia discarded this timeless, iconic livery for the adequate but sadly bland current scheme.
It's cheaper for them to fly more modern 4 engine aircrafts or even twin-engine's across the pound.

Viva Iberia: Lineas Aereas de Espana! Miss the 747 fleet, especially my favorite aircraft which I have flown in to Spain almost EVERY year back in the 1980s: "Calderon de la Barca". Nowadays, their Airbus A340 fleet is just as magnificent and I enjoy flying in them as well!
I remember seeing a leased 747-400 landing at San Juan, Puerto Rico in '04
Wow this video is like a historic document!!. Just excellent!! Thanks for sharing with us. EC-GAG (previously registered as EC-BRQ) flew with Iberia for 31 years and more than 100,000 hours (1972-2003).
Btw...I guess the pax were tossed around quite a bit during the landing you show at the begginning of the video :P

I just purchased the Inflight200 model of the Iberia Queen. She is stunning in the older livery. I wouldn't be surprised if it was another Saul Bass design.
@coolharry1236 I'm guessing 2001 or early 2002 since you see a glimpse of both TWA and JetBlue planes at JFK.
Is it just me or that 747 taking off from NY (minute 1:38 - 1:43) has a problem with the rightmost landing gear? It does not seem to move at all. Is it always like that on all B747?
That is odd. Hopefully it remedied itself soon after.

i was a passanger on a iberia 747 from jfk to madrid in 1999 i think..
during the landing fire came out of one engine.... and the jumbo were shaking ..
Probably a compressor stall. Or a bird strike.
Nowadays Iberia only has 340-600 and 340-300 for long-range flights

I agree, my grandpa (rip) worked for the Spanish government (he was Spanish) during the Franco years and he came and visited us in the states very often or we went to Spain alternately. He always flew Pan Am and once I asked him why he didn't fly Iberia and he said he wouldn't wish and Iberia flight n his worst enemies...LOL...He loved Pan Am or TWA or Lufthansa the best. He intimated that Iberia had poor safety records (back then) and their service was terrible!

iberia saco de su flota los 747 hace varios años, y los reemplazo con A340 y A330. ahora esos aviones estan en tierra ya que cumplieron su vida util.
Eduardo Barillas los 747 fueron retirados en el 2006 cuando aun podian seguir volando hasta ahora (me refiero a los Boeings 747-400)
En 2003 realizé MAD-JFK-MAD en B-747, creo dejaron de operar en 2006.

+José Manuel hola amigo lo que hace que los aviones vuelen es su fuselaje y el empuje de motor, oseas las turbinas, tienen tanta fuerza que no deja que se caigan, claro esta que cuando pierden las turbinas se caen como nada, es como cuando lanzas una piedra, cuando va con tanta fuerza vuela y no se cae sino cuando empieza a perder la fuerza, los aviones es algo parecido solo que necesitan del fuselaje para la estabilidad y sea mas planeador, espero te haya ayudado un poco saludos

José Manuel la verdad es que con solo dos de esos motores el 747 puede volar. Aunque necesitaría más pista. Pero los aviones pueden volar por la aerodinámica de sus fuselajes y sus alas. Más el empuje constante de sus motores. Los 4 motores roll Royce del Boing 747 son los más poderosos del mundo. Un solo es capaz de arrastrar el Jumbo. Dos son capaces de elevarlo. Ojala te ayude a comprender.

Still the best Airplane in my book...The Airline, eh, not so much...My grandpa was from Spain and he would always fly TWA or PanAm. Even though he worked for the Spanish Government, he said Iberia was one of the worst airlines back in those days...

I was in Costa Rica by Iberia (from Madrid) .. end i want to inform you: IBERIA HAVE TERRIBLE IN-FLIGHT SERVICE... food was poor, hospitality at very low level.... avoid them!
