I think it’s a common tactic, and one that people use more when they feel they aren’t being heard or their position isn’t being given the credit that the person thinks they should have. So yeah that’s not a good tactic, but what’s worse is people who find some credible source who agrees with them and then they speak as if there are not experts with equal prestige or argue the opposite. The appeal to authority is tough because it’s necessary but very fallacious.
Because when he debates people they don't have as much info as him, the info they don't have explicitly contradicts their point, and they ignore him saying it saying he's just getting bogged down in the details, and don't treat his opinion with any respect either. This describes all his debates with people who disagree, and it's why he isn't saying these people are informed but disagree

Im for sure considered a more conservative/libertarian minded guy. I would say I mostly just hate extreme political takes. But as a christian I think its hard to watch someone in real time watch a video of people just hating on them and making fun of them. I watch Destiny pretty regularly just to get more takes that are out of my bubble and its really helpful. But when he is watching clips and doing research live, it makes personal attacks on him seem so much more gross. I know he does it too but it drives home that we could treat each other better. Makes me want to watch how I talk more and be more charitable to people. Its for sure fun to spout off and call someone names and whatever at times, but then to see them react to it in real time and act like it doesnt hurt them or has no effect is really quite sad. Just think about it, you actually think that everything the other person says is always wrong and not factual, and only Destiny is correct in every point he brings up. In my experience most libertarians are anti meritocratic whenever you apply pressure to them. It's like democracy everyone likes it until they realize they're ideas are unpopular. People turn on Merit based systems the moment they hit their limit of ability.
No the point is that the high school debate tactics are great for totally owning mentally unstable, exposure-hungry, nobody streamers that destiny seems to spend most of his time debating and forming his opinion of the opposition with, but it does not lend itself to a productive conversation for the participants, or more importantly the viewers. Great for clips and clicks though, which is what Destiny milks very effectively.

I’m pretty sure historians do this, scientists do this, engineers do this, lawyers do this, etc so I’m not sure why destiny keeps making the point that people who disagree with him are uninformed
I think it’s a common tactic, and one that people use more when they feel they aren’t being heard or their position isn’t being given the credit that the person thinks they should have. So yeah that’s not a good tactic, but what’s worse is people who find some credible source who agrees with them and then they speak as if there are not experts with equal prestige or argue the opposite. The appeal to authority is tough because it’s necessary but very fallacious.
Because when he debates people they don't have as much info as him, the info they don't have explicitly contradicts their point, and they ignore him saying it saying he's just getting bogged down in the details, and don't treat his opinion with any respect either. This describes all his debates with people who disagree, and it's why he isn't saying these people are informed but disagree

Im for sure considered a more conservative/libertarian minded guy. I would say I mostly just hate extreme political takes. But as a christian I think its hard to watch someone in real time watch a video of people just hating on them and making fun of them. I watch Destiny pretty regularly just to get more takes that are out of my bubble and its really helpful. But when he is watching clips and doing research live, it makes personal attacks on him seem so much more gross. I know he does it too but it drives home that we could treat each other better. Makes me want to watch how I talk more and be more charitable to people. Its for sure fun to spout off and call someone names and whatever at times, but then to see them react to it in real time and act like it doesnt hurt them or has no effect is really quite sad. I started listening to destiny about 6 months ago. And I loved him. But now I listen all the time and i can’t stand him. Ive heard some really great and thoughtful stuff from Dave over the years but i dont think debating brings out the best in him. If I'm being generous to the criticism of Destiny not believing his points I would create a rule to the effect of 'you must hold X position publicly or with some degree of proof for X amount of time before you can engage in a meaningful debate on said topic' That seems like a generous summation of the criticism and I can understand to a degree. The problem with people who believe is they rarely reassess or test those beliefs or those who spout them; belief and those who confirm their beliefs are enough. Belief is more important than truth.

thats exactly what ive said about Destiny in debates. He could care less who is right, he just wants to be right, no matter what is being said. The other person is always wrong and they are the scum of the earth. Just think about it, you actually think that everything the other person says is always wrong and not factual, and only Destiny is correct in every point he brings up. His strategy of debating is spewing data at a rate that the other person cant keep up and it throws them off. It doesnt mean hes right or smart, it just means he just spews insane amount of data at once. Even if the other person has valid points, he wont recognize them and instead will find a way for him to be right. No matter how good of a player is in baseball, if you throw 10 balls all at once, he wont be able to catch them all at once. Destiny is that person throwing all those balls that player. He doesnt know how to have genuine debates, he just wants to be correct.
