    thank you for actually saying the box wrench size, I was pulling my hair out when none of my sockets fit. Made picking out the right wrench way easier.

    I ALWAYS START my Cars and Trucks and Motorcycles to Check for leaks after an Oil and Filter change.
    Then if no leaks I check the oil level mainly because New Oil fills the New Filter when started so I get a more accurate reading of the Oil Level.

    Loosen the oil filter so it drains back into the pan before you remove oil drain nut. As another commenter said, loosen the oil fill cover too.

    Which direction does the drain plug crush gasket go on (flat side against the pan or the plug)?

    I noticed you put 5 quarts in even though it calls for 5.1. Is it ok to just not put in the .01?

    • @gjallen44
      @gjallen44 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Far better to have too little oil than too much. None of my vehicles burn oil so I always leave about .01 out. Just check your dip stick and you’ll be fine.

    On my 2017 Crosstrek the oil drain bolt is 14mm. I should have taken a picture. Also, there’s enough room to get in there with a socket wrench.

    Do you ever pre fill the filter or prime the system to get oil pressure before starting the vehicle?

    For Crosstrek 2015, do you recommend 0w20 synthetic or 5w30 synthetic? The cap says 0w20, but the manual says 5w30. Also, is there any harm in choosing a brand outside of subaru for oil filter, do you happen to have a recommendation? Thanks!

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Indira S I would put in whichever oil the cap has on it. If you are unsure of what your vehicle calls for please contact your local dealership with your VIN, and they should be able to help. You can use whichever brand oil filter as long as it is the correct fit! 1aauto.com

      A couple years back I called up Subaru which weights of oil are ok to run in the engine, anything from 0W-20 up to 10W-40 is fine. I use 5W-30 because it's the most common and cheapest weight. Only other requirements to the oil are API SN RC or ILSAC GF-5 or ACEA A3 or A5.
      Oil filter brand doesn't matter, just use one from a reputable brand like Hengst, Mann, Fram, DC etc.

    At 2:46 it sounds like you said you used a new gasket when reinstalling the drain plug. Is that critical? If so, is it a generic gasket or something oil-pan-/ Subaru-/ Crosstrek-specific? Thanks.

    I'm using synthetic oil in our crosstrek and would like to change the filter only at 3k miles...any suggestions, on how not to make a huge mess? Can I tap a small drain hole on top of the oil filter to allow the oil drain down out of the filter?

    • @JoeTeaserJO3BeatsFoelker
      @JoeTeaserJO3BeatsFoelker 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jetli_notme just remove filter, it does not make that much of a mess.
