Sounds like it could be a Detroit, maybe even an old 2-stroke high-RPM motor. I'm also curious if those are real buses, or just fiberglass made to look like buses. I think they are are real. The corrugated sides look right, and I think they'd be even faster if they weren't real steel bodied buses.

Every time I went to San Juan, I got into a race with either cops, corrections vans (filled with Prisoners!) Ambulances and fire department vehicles. Everyone in state government with an official car (yellow plates) just love to race. If you pass someone fast, it's on and then you have what it called "Caravan Racing " Maximum speed limit in Puerto Rico 65. (Great grandmothers drive faster! ) Come to Oeste Puerto Rico, rent a decent car and race Your Ass Off!
A little diesel smoke isn't going to kill you. Breathing it all day, every day for ten years might hurt you, but a little smell once in a while isn't bad.
