      Hello! I have always tried to make the viewing experience here one that is more than just, shelling on a beach - so I appreciate this type of feedback!

    Big or small, those northern moons are beautiful. All the northern shells have that rustic look that no doubt comes from some rough and rocky surf. Congrats on the iceland scallop, it is gorgeous.

      Hello! Your observation regarding the "look" of boreal shells is spot on! The biodiversity of shells in the colder regions is considerably less than it is in the temperate and tropical regions, but this is why it's so cool to see what awesome goodies can be found in the places you may not expect!
      Thanks for watching!

    What an exciting day!! I've never seen a piddock shell before, that's super cool and more than one😉. Awesome video as always.

      Hello! Yes, Piddocks are certainly an uncommon find on beaches in this region - the past few storms that have passed by the Gulf of Maine this fall, most certainly had an effect on some of them washing up!
      Thanks for watching!

    I went shelling in Redcliffe Queensland Australia and it was bare, I nothing but 2 small driftwood. Good finds.

      I have been to locations before that I thought I'd find shells, and found none - it happens sometimes. I have found, that in the disappointing instances of finding little or nothing, I am still able to appreciate everything that is around me - that's what has made all of the difference for me!
      Thank you so much for watching, friend!

      Blue Mussels! They are a relatively common find here in Maine, but no two shells look the same - one of the reasons I love finding and comparing them!
      Thanks for watching!

    The world seems a little more calmer today now that I've been shelling in Maine with you... So cool the many finds that hurricane Fiona tossed up on the beach! Almost time to review your shell collection again...! God love you and thanx, once again, for letting me tag along on this shelling adventure!!!

    Lovely vlog! The partial triton, Iceland scallop, the color of that oyster shell with the lacy/scalloped edge was so special, and the piddock, which I’ve never seen before, all really caught my eye. Nice finds! ❤

    Seems so peaceful there even with the wild wind. Not often enough can you find this solitude and be able to clear the mind. I especially like the new (to me) shells you found. I am curious about what the back of the Piddock shell looks like. As you pointed out, the back side of the shells can be beautiful too.

      Hello! The recent storms passing up the eastern seaboard of the US, and past the Gulf of Maine really churned up the seafloor.
      Regarding the Piddocks... it's a great question! I have only found a few of them ever, but all have had a perforated line marking - I am not sure!
      Thanks for watching!

    I'm trying to stay calm, lol...I think I threw away a Piddock because I thought it was a broken Angel Wing. Do all Piddocks have the line of dots going across their shells like on yours? If so, then I'm safe...if not...DOH!!! Thank you for another peaceful shelling day!

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, interesting you noted the perforated lines on the back of the shells... to be honest, I am not sure. All of the Atlantic Great Piddocks that I have found have this line, so it may be a feature specific to the species - I'll have to do more research!

    @ Timestamp: 6:46 you mentioned the shell as a "Jack knife" clam. I always thought it was a razor clam, looked it up, & it is called a "Razor" clam, it resembles the old fashioned men's face shaving razors.

      Hi friend! I love Jackknife Clams, and didn't realize until this episode that I have never featured them in one of my Maine shelling uploads!

    When’s the best time to shell in Maine?

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi friend, great question!
      Honestly, I have great luck shelling at all times of the year in Maine. If you can bear the frigid cold weather of winter, you will find less people visiting(and shelling), so perhaps the down season(October - April)?
      If you are on the fence about trekking to Maine to shell, I can say that really, any ocean front spot along Maine's coast will give you some shell treasures - it's worth it!
